1st its my understanding that the release has names of teams on schedule currently so I don't even know if it would matter.

2nd At this time, I don't know if you can get that game, and its by far the easiest pay-day game there is in terms of travel.

if he had 2 or 3 years of eligibility I'd consider it more, but since the conference splits NCAA tournament payments it really doesn't benefit us financially to do it.

1- that game's during the middle of Christmas break
2- you get paid to travel, so cost is, comparatively, no object.

In any event, I don't think it makes sense to go after Iverson, but I don't think the annual Christmas tilt with Minnesota is a good excuse not to go for this kid. There are other, better, ones.

there has been times when it has been over Xmas break and times when its been the week during finals. And as far as my knowledge travel cost goes out of the money given. So if they pay $50K and it cost $5K to get there/stay/come back. its $45K.

I don't know if I like the game with Minnesota, but when you go D-I money plays a big role, and for whatever reason we continue to play them. Maybe this move will make the coaching staff object to it in the future.

I've thought about that, Lance Freisen who was his AAU coach is an assistant there now. However when you not only have been part of a Big 10 team, but actually played and had some success it would be hard to go play NAIA ball. But who knows

Why would you post nonsense like this? Colton was not in SF last night and this is not something that he would say. What happened to having to post a source?

                Re: Colton Iverson

Transferring is pretty cut and dry. My daughter transferred from one D-1 program to another, and she was allowed to play the next year as long as she didn't transfer to a school in the same conference. It is my understanding that the only difference between men and women is the men have to sit out a year.

Regarding the list of schools everyone is referring to, the NCAA allows the transferring player to list up to 5 schools immediate notice that he/she is available for transfer. That happens once the NCAA accepts the release papers from the host school, which I can tell you is literally minutes after they recieve the paperwork from the host school, which in this case is Minnesota. The athlete is not bound to one of those 5 schools, they are just giving those 5 schools immediate notice.

The only thing I can't confirm is whether or not the host school can identify schools the athlete "can't" transfer to. Or teams on their schedule. To me, that makes no sense, because in the case of SDSU, if they play the Gophers next winter, Iverson wouldn't be elgible anyway. But alot of things NCAA wise don't make sense.

I would think that USD would be on his short list just because dad played there and is close to home. But that doesn't jive with getting him ready for the pros part, so I don't know.

Would I like to see Colton in a Jack uniform even if for one year? You bet, but whether it happens remains to be seen. He might choose a D2 school and Mankato might be his home. Its a good school has an excellent business school if that is where Colton is headed.

I with you on these points. It seems kind of crazy. Some one else made the point that Letters of intent are not worth the paper they are written on since in 99 per cent of the cases the school grants a release. I think every institution wants their student athletes to leave with a good taste in their mouth and if they challenge every LOI breach, their lawyers would be in court daily. No institution can afford that from a legal cost stand point nor from an image point of view. Personally I think the Big Ten has gotten a little carried away with the releases of LOI.

Currently enjoying some R&R in Cozumel. When I get back to Yankton I'll ask Chuck where his son might be thinking about going. Chuck has never said anything bad about Nagy. He has also never said Colton was considering SDSU. I want things to work out well for this young man and is family.

Initially I thought there's be 150 posts on this topic. Thankfully, I think I'm going to be wrong.

Can we get back to the Wegher speculations instead?

I think 76Rabbit's post tells the story: Just in the Crowd is, once again, stirring the pot. I'm consulting with the other moderators: Just in the Crowd is not a Jackrabbit fan and has been banned on this board more than once. For now, I suggest everyone disregard Just in the Crowd and what he has written...no use starting a flaming war with him either -- just consider the source.

I'm not sure when your daughter transferred schools, but a lot of what you posted above is not accurate. The NCAA has no control over how many schools can be given a release. The current school the athlete is at has all the control in this situation. They can give a blanket release that allows the transferring student athlete the ability to talk to any school. Or, they can do what Minnesota is doing and pick and choose which schools they want to grant a release to. Also, in Iverson's case SDSU can request permission from Minnesota to contact him regarding a possible transfer but it is up to Minnesota to grant permission.

I wish I could cite the proper bylaw(s) in the NCAA manual but I don't have time to sift through that large book!!!

Careful using the blackberry in Mexico. We were at Cancun over Christmas with the girls and my cell phone bill was $350 higher due to data charges! Ouch! They told me texting was not charged since we have unlimited texting...wrong.

The year you have to sit out depends on the sport if I'm not mistaken.
