I'm a licensed engineer. If I have a client and I produce a design for them. The client wants to do something that varies from the design that let's say is potentially dangerous. I inform them of this and advise them not to proceed with this yet they do and I didn't stop them. A year later someone is hurt or killed. How much water is the "I told them not to" going to hold when I go to court because a grieving widow is suing? Not very much. As design professionals we are expected to be the experts. Allowing some client to do something that just isn't a good idea doesn't automatically absolve the design professional. A good lawyer is going to ask who should have known better and it's likely not someone with the city who has been through one big building project like this.

I wouldn't consider the loss of human life an equal analogy to siding on a building. As a licensed engineer, you are responsible for the welfare and safety of the public for any plans you sign. If a given change is requested by the client and you know it to be dangerous, yet you proceed to make those changes and sign the plans anyways, you should (and will) lose your license in every state you practice.

Filbert's posts have been spot on, IMO. The situation is not as cut and dry as you want to make it.

Many years ago, when the arena was new there were roof problems. They got fixed. The sky did not fall.

Was that 50+ years ago? Time flies.

I don't remember this but the sky did not fall, that is a truism.

No, but the roof just about did........j/k....I do remember this (the Arena roof problem), but don't remember a controversy about it, must have been settled amiably

Here's what I know. The inside is very nice, the seats are comfy and the beer is cold.

The crown/water isnt too bad either.

I suppose it depends on how many tickets are sold and if we get an SDSU/USD mens game. Ive been to 3 Stampede games and the upper was closed and i think attendance was over 6000, maybe 6500, cant remember.

I am not positive, but I think the lower bowl seats around 7500-7700.

I think it seats a little or 10000 for hockey and 12000 for basketball.

The larger numbers would include the upper area where they drop the curtain.

1. If the panels would have been designed to look that way this would be less of a discussion. Personally I like the texture it adds. It gives some character to the building IMO.

B. I think the bigger issue is that they built the building too small going forward.

I was told today that the curtain will be down and the main reason is.... Television.
