Over 41-percent voter turnout... quite impressive, considering this was a vote for one issue and no candidates running for office.

I am a little surpised that it passed. I'm a LOT surprised by the margin.

Mayor Heuther gets it done. Permanent home to the Summit League championships?? Good for them.

Yes, the city might have been thinking small...but one has to realize a $115 million dollar projects is something foreign to the good citizenry of Sioux Falls...the mere mention of 200 million might have caused some of our older population to simultaneously puke, sh%$ and p&$$ themselves capping it off with a cardiac arrest. The number and size were correct for what the voters would accept, IMO. Besides "if we can't fill the 6000 seats" and supposedly can't fill the 12000 seats, how would we fill larger?

I just find it sad that this is the best idea people in sioux falls think we can have. Very dissapointing.

So are you saying it should be built in Brookings so we will fill it?

My precent voted yes by a 70% margin I'm proud to say, AND I am one of the old farts some of you have been predicting would kill the issue.

I think some one above asked about the opening date. On television tonight they said the building is scheduled to open in 2014.

I'm somewhat surprised on the result really surprised on the actual numbers. I figured if it passed it would be relatively small.

I think in the end Sioux Falls will be happy but that is just my opinion

I believe the 'silent majority' just said, "STOP ARGUING AND BUILD IT."

I consider this a small-minded half-solution to the problem, but hey, I guess that's in keeping with Sioux Falls and SD traditions.

It's of a piece with a Board of Regents that doesn't know what to do with the largest graphic design program in the midwest, a world renowned music collection in a crackerbox of a museum, a world-class physics lab and no Ph.D. program in physics.

Do I need to go on? This isn't just about the Events Center, this is about a timorous mindset that persistently refuses to take advantage of opportunities.

Heck, look at SDSU. Look at how long it took to go D-1, and look at the attendant hand-wringing, the second-guessing, the panic of the BoR, the strings attached, the chicken-littling from every corner of the state, and over what? Nothing more than a move that had been obvious for 20 years at least.

yea the cost is $115 million and people only see the expense. but where does that money go. it goes into wages,( spent in the city), in sales taxes paid to the city and state, in materials, hopefully bought in Sioux Falls and South Dakota, If the city is smart they will hire local contractors, designers and workers buy the materials locally and keep that $115 million in state.
