Re: Events Center Predictions/No commentary/Just predictions

I wonder how the absentee ballots get counted? Are they included in each precinct from where they come or are they counted separately? Any ideas?

They are added in each precinct as they are counted, so there is no large bunch waiting to be added in at the end.

Wow!! To quote Gomer Pyle USMC, "Surprise ! Surprise!". The people who promoted the yes voted did an excellent job and should be congradulated. With property tax not being a part of the financing, the SF people will have a new events center.

I am surprised. I really thought that Nidaros had it predicted and that his reasoning would prove to be correct. We will probably never know whether the downtown location would truly be better. I know that some people do feel like they know that for a fact. When I go to events in Rapid City, I go for the event, not the nightlife afterward. If I want to go out for dinner before the event, I do. It is easy to drive to the Rushmore Plaza after the event a park. It will work out just fine. I am pretty confident that the open area in downtown will soon be in big demand for some other use. If it isn't, it only proves that downtown isn't that desirable after all.

When does the new place open?

Even Pat Lalley agreed with my comment that property tax not being in the mix help the yes vote, but it goes beyond the financing. The YES group was very well organized and got their voters out. The NO group lead by Barclay failed miserably in spreading the word according to Lalley and our buddie Stu. They held one press conference at a remote library in SF. The NO people did not go after the old farts like myself and got them frothing at the mouth. Had they done that, the results would have been much different. I am happy that the EC passed. Spending a few extra cents on sales tax is not going to be noticed, and thats what makes sales tax an effective financing tool.

They were talking on the live blog that the building would start sometime in 2012 I believe.

If nothing else it will be nice not to have SF arguing over this for 25 years like our neighbor to the west with their massive birdfeeder.

Seems like a typical neighbor in SF, one who would rather be busy feeding birds then attending the Summit League tourney.

Well I voiced my opinion at the polls tonight and this is one thing that most Jacks fans and Coyote fans can agree with is that an event center is a good thing all around for Sioux Falls, for the Jacks and for the Coyotes. The more people that live in and around Sioux Falls means generally the more people that will attend Jacks and Coyote games. An events center will just spur the growth. Thank god at least one city in this state puts progression above the same old can not do ideals that so many people put to the forefront.
