I fear this will fail and move the project back 5-10 yr. This is looking more and more like the 30 year old Corn Palace debate. Do we really want to be Mitchell, really?
I don't think it will push the project back 5-10 years. It will delay it a couple years, but I also think that if approved this year, the city would end up with significantly higher borrowing costs (depending on who you listen too, there's an unprecedented risk of muni default in the near term.)

I do hope I'm wrong on my prediction that the vote will not pass. I just believe that those against will come out to vote stronger than those that favor, even without the debate over location.

The naysayers believe we can't afford the project (we can) and then there is the rumble that someone might make money off of the project (I hope so). Those are two powerful sentiments that are stronger than just wanting a better facility for a tournement or concert.

I'm thining 58% in favor just isn't enough.

S&P's downgrade yesterday on US Securities to AA is not going to make cost of money cheaper for anyone, and base on the KELO land Poll, the project chances were looking pretty good. This downgrade could change a lot of things.

It could have a negative effect but so could many things, how about we wait and see how it affects the financial markets and then how it comes down to affecting the local bond market for the city of Sioux Falls.

It could also lead to lower cost of the products used to build it, making the project cheaper. Lets just wait and see what is going to happen before we get all worried about it.

Good article and good news and so much for my worry about S & P down grade. There is link titled Municipal bond Rates which shows what the issue would cost today. The rates look good. If Sioux Fall Sports Authority can get a AAA or even an AA rating interest would be less than 5% and more like 3.5% on a thirty year issue. Everything should be a go as far as I can see.

Comments are more interesting than the article to which one commentor hit it on the head by saying this was a reguritation of all that has been discussed for the past six months. A good review though for those who have not followed it blow by blow.

I did negotiation plan for a mangement class on the Sioux Falls events center topic just recently. It was an assignment for a stupid class just to fulfill my requirements for my master's degree, but it's going to be really interesting to see if this thing gets built.

I still believe Sioux Falls needs a new events center because the current one is severely outdated, but I'm not sure where it should go or how big to build it. I'd have to defer to others for that.

Haha. I haven't followed it as closely because I don't live in Sioux Falls anymore and I've noticed it's a touchy subject on here so I didn't want to offend.

Either way, the thing needs to get built...and soon!

I wonder if they're also going to replace the center-hung scoreboard as well? Seems kinda tacky to clip team names to the scoreboard when you can get a board with an electronic message center.
