I thought it was going along Rice on the way to brandon. I thought they just had to do an enviorenmental study at that site before they could start the process of moving stuff.

Yes--and I think they're piggybacking a chunk of that study on the SD 100 study, however the Rice St. switching yard would apparently require rerouting the tracks at Falls Park. If you look at a map, you can kind of see the problem, the switching yard splits off in two directions, NW to the airport and NE along Rice. If you use the existing bridge you've got this really tight angle that can't be negotiated, unless you reroute tracks:

I can see that being a problem. With the possible new site, one would think that problem would have been addressed or way to go around.

I live a block from cherry rock park by Southeastern and if they could keep trains from going through town as much, that would be great. Its not so much the noise, doesnt really bother me, many times dont even notice it um. But the traffic can really back up there. Just a few days ago the traffic was backs up pretty far on River Blvd heading to 18th St and there was a pretty good car accident a guy went to the hospital and a pick up got hit pretty well. Also it goes over cliff and I get stuck going to or from work for lunch all the time so if i go home over River Blvd or fast food off of cliff it stinks. I figure they will keep running trains in town. As I sit here at work I can see the train is back stopped on the tracks heading to the switch yard and lunch is T minus 6 minutes.

I believe are 2 hotels set to be built when this thing goes through as well potential expansion of a few close by.

20k attendance probably requires over 10k hotel rooms. SF doesn't even have 5,000 rooms. The total is probably under 3k.

Like it or not, this thing is going to be built. Mayor Mike has long said that he wanted the public to have a say in the matter, hence a vote, but he will move ahead with his agenda regardless the outcome of the vote.

Councilmen, and legilators are elected to represent the voters. Mayors, governors and presidents are elected to lead. I don't have a problem with the executive moving forward if the representatives give it the OK.

I'm thinking that having a vote on this in November is not a good idea.

I would agree with that assessment. I should fail the vote in Nov. Too many believe the economy is bad here (it is not). I would rather they wait until at least some progress is made in removeing the train tracks so people can see that there would be room downtown.

I fear this will fail and move the project back 5-10 yr. This is looking more and more like the 30 year old Corn Palace debate. Do we really want to be Mitchell, really?

I just got around to reading the link that LakeJack posted on Thursday the 4th. I guess its the excitement about new uniforms that has been on my mind that has prevented me from being up to date.

At any rate the poll shows 50 per cent approve the facility being built which is a surprise to me when you consider the economic times which Prairie Haas says are not bad and I agree, and also the results of past elections on facilities of this nature. The Salvation Army Wellness joint venture comes to mind and that was voted down by a large margin and that was maybe two or three years ago. Also there are constant complaints about street conditions, which you would think would be a larger group than 50 per cent of the 900 sample. The events center could still happen considering all the negatives out there that have the power of one vote each.

If this poll is without bias, it has a good chance of becoming reality.
