Does anybody in the HPER building realize how incredibly stupid it is to put coaches' shows behind the Jackrabbit Extra subscription wall? I see that they're coming out with a "Around the Bases" audio show for baseball and softball seasons. (Announcement link here.) That's great. You have to pay the Jackrabbit Extra $4.95/month fee to listen to them. That's stupid.
I had the same thought, actually, about the Stigelmeyer, Nagy, and Johnston video coaches shows. They were well done, but I'm sure almost nobody saw them, because except for a brief excerpt, they were hidden behind the subscription wall.
These are promotional materials, folks. You're making your money by putting butts in the seats for athletic events. Everything that you do needs to revolve around building interest generally, and building attendance specifically. EVERYTHING YOU DO. Job #1 is creating, enhancing, and sustaining a positive buzz about SDSU Athletics. These shows can help you do that. But if you hide them behind a subscription wall, you limit the audience to these shows to only the hardest core of the fanatics--the ones that have ALREADY paid for their season tickets, most likely.
Get a clue, Athletic Department! Make the coaches' shows easily and freely available for viewing.
That's what I think.
