Mascot/logo news?

The 12/5/07 edition of the Collegian reports the new logo design has been selected and submitted to university administration for final approval. Some work remains to get the right font. No date set for the release but the article guesses January or perhaps late February (to coincide with a basketball rivalry game.

Unveiling the logo at a big game could be a little dangerous! Some may express displeasure.

Kind of ballsy to unveil it at a game. Maybe GoJacks might be a little better place to unveil since there has been so many different ideas for the logo...

That's my thought, HoboD. ANY new logo will have its detractors. After a while, everyone gets accustomed to it and many will be won over. If the logo is unveiled at a game -- what happens if there is simply dead silence?

As we all know, we can't keep the current bunny.

There were a couple of the last set of four that were fine, particularly if they get the colors and text right (too bad they didn't get the colors right before they did the last public online voting... very poor planning there, rendering the survey results useless).

Jackrabbit fans didn't like the Phoenix Design ones after the Collegian leaked an early version. So the administration enlisted submissions, got some good ones, worked those over. Interesting that we can all be on board with our administration's decisions... except when it concerns a cartoon rabbit. I would note that SA President Alex Brown is pleased. Everybody I know who has seen the final bunny (sans text so far) is pleased.

Let's at least give it a chance. I think people will be pleasantly surprised. They've consulted with everybody they were supposed to (students, faculty, administration, alumni, etc.) Now let's see what they come up with. I'm looking forward to buying merchandise with a rabbit on it again... we have one of the most unique mascots out there and we just need a logo to get it out there in circulation.

By the way, the one I liked on the last round was the one that looks kind of like Filbert's bunny... and I'm betting (no inside info) that'll be the final choice. Render it in the right colors with some cool text, and it'll be a really nice logo.

I'm pretty flexible and probably can adjust to whatever is selected. It'll be a good excuse to get more gear!

Good idea...like we need another excuse to go to the bookstore. And by the looks of my freshman daughters Visa bill, Santa may be bringing a lot more this Christmas. And then we just get to start all over again with the new logo.

I'm sure part of the delay after the decision is made is so that swag can be on hand for the unveiling. If it is at ballgame, they better have a sales booth set up so fans can get it that night! Call me if they need a volunteer to man the booth.

I am excited. They had a good crop in the last ones they released. I was pleased with 3 out of 5 so I don't think I will be disappointed. I will be sad to see the running rabbit go. I know it is cartoonish but I like it. The change is understandable though. New division new logo. Makes sense to me.

Warner Brothers has said that our rabbit looks to much like Bugs Bunny. That is the whole reason for the different look.

Our current rabbit IS Bugs Bunny, with minor changes to the feet and with some teeth added to fill in his mouth (Bugs only has the two big chompers.)

And note that Warner Brothers is a relatively small subsidiary of Time Warner, a global media company with a capitalization (today) of $63 billion. You don't want to get in a copyright battle with them.

I will have to respectfully disagree. Our current rabbit ISN'T Bugs Bunny. However, I do agree the University has no interest in getting into a copyright battle with Time Warner.
