Jacks pin way past Millersville
HAMPTON, Va. -- South Dakota State wrestlers picked up three pins in defeating Millersville (Pa.) 21-19 in the opening round of the Virginia Duals Friday morning.
The Jackrabbits, who improved to 4-2 in duals this season, have the rest of Friday off before meeting Davidson (N.C.) in semifinal action of the American division at 2 p.m. Eastern (1 p.m. Central) Saturday.
Millersville, 0-3-1 in duals, won six of the 10 weight classes, but couldn't overcome SDSU's pinning prowess.
Chris Werth put the second-seeded Jackrabbits on the board with a pin in 3 minutes, 34 seconds in the 133-pound weight class.
After Andy Everson scored a 9-3 victory at 157 pounds for SDSU, Nate Althoff made quick work of his opponent, recording a pin in 30 seconds.
Cody Nehl gave the Jackrabbits a 21-16 lead with a fall in 2:12 at 197 pounds. Newcomer Scott Revier, wrestling his first collegiate match in two years, held his own at heavyweight before dropping a 7-2 decision -- enough to give the Jackrabbits the victory.
SDSU and the Marauders are scheduled to meet again Feb. 18 at Millersville.
