    Jacks pin way past Millersville
    HAMPTON, Va. -- South Dakota State wrestlers picked up three pins in defeating Millersville (Pa.) 21-19 in the opening round of the Virginia Duals Friday morning.

    The Jackrabbits, who improved to 4-2 in duals this season, have the rest of Friday off before meeting Davidson (N.C.) in semifinal action of the American division at 2 p.m. Eastern (1 p.m. Central) Saturday.

    Millersville, 0-3-1 in duals, won six of the 10 weight classes, but couldn't overcome SDSU's pinning prowess.

    Chris Werth put the second-seeded Jackrabbits on the board with a pin in 3 minutes, 34 seconds in the 133-pound weight class.

    After Andy Everson scored a 9-3 victory at 157 pounds for SDSU, Nate Althoff made quick work of his opponent, recording a pin in 30 seconds.

    Cody Nehl gave the Jackrabbits a 21-16 lead with a fall in 2:12 at 197 pounds. Newcomer Scott Revier, wrestling his first collegiate match in two years, held his own at heavyweight before dropping a 7-2 decision -- enough to give the Jackrabbits the victory.

    SDSU and the Marauders are scheduled to meet again Feb. 18 at Millersville.

    SDSU meets Duquesne in championship bracket Saturday 8: 30 PM eastern.



    NDSU drop first two matches, win last match all on Fri.

      Jacks defeat Davidson 31-15
      HAMPTON, Va. — South Dakota State wrestlers picked up four pins in defeating Davidson (N.C.) 31-15 in the second round of the Virginia Duals Saturday afternoon.

      The Jackrabbits, who improved to 5-2 in duals this season, will face Duquesne (Pa.), a 25-14 winner over Franklin and Marshall (Pa.), in the finals of the American division at 8 p.m. Eastern (7 p.m. Central) Saturday.

      Dusty Kavitz put the second-seeded Jackrabbits on the board with a pin in 4 minutes, 21 seconds in the 149-pound weight class.

      Sophomore Andy Everson scored a 9-4 victory at 157 pounds for SDSU, while Nate Althoff made quick work of his opponent, recording a pin in 1 minute, 17 seconds.

      After Levi Krehmeyer recorded a 10-1 victory at 184 pounds, Cody Nehl recorded a pin in 2:17 at 197 pounds. Newcomer Scott Revier, wrestling his second collegiate match in two years, recorded a pin in 23 seconds at HWT, giving SDSU the 31-15 victory.

        Jacks capture title at Virginia Duals
        HAMPTON, Va. — The South Dakota State wrestlers captured the American College Division title Saturday night defeating Duquesne (Pa.) 29-12 in the final round of the Virginia Duals.

        The Jackrabbits, who improved to 6-2 in duals this season, went 3-0 in competition at the tournament.

        Marcus Waters put the Jackrabbits on the board scoring a 18-9 win in the 125-pound weight class.

        Sophomore Chris Werth scored a 2-1 victory at 133 pounds for SDSU, while Chad Herrboldt, recorded a pin in 1 minute, 43 seconds.

        Sophomore Andy Everson scored a 13-2 victory at 157 pounds, while Nate Althoff recorded a 6-2 decision at 165 pounds.

        After Travis Gottschalk recorded a 6-3 victory at 174 pounds, Cody Nehl recorded a pin in 1:18 at 197 pounds. SDSU forfeited at HWT.

        South Dakota State will continue action at home next Saturday when it takes on Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. in Frost Arena.

          HAMPTON, Va. - The South Dakota State wrestlers captured the American College Division title in the Virginia Duals on Saturday night, defeating Duquesne (Pa.) 29-12 in the final rounds.

          Chad Herrboldt at 141 pounds and Cody Nehl at 197 had pins for the Jackrabbits (6-2), who went 3-0 in the tourney.

          SDSU picked up four pins in defeating Davidson (N.C.) 31-15 in the second round on Saturday afternoon. Nehl, Dusty Kavitz at 149, Nate Althoff at 165 and Scott Revier at heavyweight had pins.

          I say congrads to the Wrestlers, way to go. If we would not have been short handed we could have maybe won the Oregon Classic. Not bad with a hand full of underclassmen. What is next:
