    SDSU men drop match to Phoenix

    ST. PETER, Minn. — The South Dakota State University men’s tennis team opened competition Friday night at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament in St. Peter, Minn.

    The Jacks fell to Wisconsin-Green Bay 7-0 at the Swanson Tennis Center.

    Zac Lunak and Brian Hylle opened the tournament falling to Mat Weiss and Tim Prudlow 8-3 in doubles action. Dusty Antoine and Matt Gill looked to put the Jacks on the board in No. 3 doubles, but fell to Scott Dickert and Mark Goldin 8-3.

    In singles action, Antoine, a Luverne, Minn., native, fell to Eric Hines at the No. 4 singles spot. The freshman lost 6-1 in the first set and was upended 7-5 in the second.

    The loss moved the Jacks to 1-6 on the spring season and marked the fifth straight duel SDSU has failed to win a match on its opponent.

    The Jacks will continue action at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament today with a 1 p.m. match against host school Gustavus. South Dakota State will take on Duquense (Pa.) tonight. Start time for the match is set for 6:30 p.m.

    Men's tennis falls in pair of matches

    ST. PETER, Minn. — The South Dakota State University men’s tennis team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus tournament in St. Peter, Minn.

    The Jackrabbits were blanked by host school Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon, falling to the Gusties 7-0 at the Swanson Tennis Center.

    In singles action, Zack Lunak, a sophomore from Grand Forks, N.D., took Mike Burdakin to three-sets, winning the first set 7-6. Lunak lost the final two set's 6-4, 10-4.

    Lunak and Brian Hylle fell in No. 1 doubles to Will Colmar and Tim Gruenisen 8-5. Dusty Antoine and Matt Gill looked to put the Jacks on the board in No. 3 doubles, but fell to Claudio Bravo and Bjorn Olson 8-3.

    SDSU closed out the tournament Saturday night against Duquesne (Pa.). The Jackrabbits, who recorded their first Division I doubles win of the year, fell to Duquesne 7-0.

    Lunak teamed with Hylle to upend Michael Ortega and Paul Clough 8-6 in No. 1 doubles.

    The Jacks moved to 1-7 on the spring season.

    SDSU will next be in action Feb. 22 when they take on Creighton University at Hanscomb Tennis Park in Omaha, Neb. Start time for the match is set for 11 a.m.

      Jackrabbits blanked against CU

      OMAHA, Neb. — The South Dakota State University women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to Creighton University Wednesday at the Hanscom Tennis Park in Omaha, Neb.

      Kristine Hagedorn and Jennifer Sondreal looked to put the Jacks on the board in No. 1 doubles, but fell to Katie Chiu and Jennifer Burge 8-3.

      In singles action, Kate Wyle dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Jennifer Burge at No. 2 singles. Amy Albrecht, a freshman from Aberdeen, fell to Jodi Yanagida 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Kayla Pruitt closed out singles play falling to Lisa Ludwig 6-4, 6-1.

      SDSU takes on Eastern Illinois Friday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Start time for the match is set for 3 p.m.

        Lunak leads Jacks against Creighton

        OMAHA, Neb. — Zac Lunak, a sophomore from Grand Forks, N.D., gave South Dakota State its first Division I singles win of the year Wednesday, but the Jacks fell to Creighton University 6-1 at the Hanscom Tennis Park in Omaha, Neb.

        Lunak upended Jose Guerra at No. 1 singles by posting a 6-4, 6-4 score. The win marked the first Division I No. 1 singles victory the South Dakota State University tennis program has recorded in its transition from Division II to Division I.

        Lunak teamed with Brian Hylle to defeat Guerra and Nikita Dudar 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. The trio posted their second consecutive Division I doubles win, having previously defeated Michael Ortega and Paul Clough of Duquesne (Pa.) 8-6 last weekend.

        The Jackrabbits, who moved to 1-8 on the spring season, will have a month off before taking on Marquette (Wis.) March 25. Start time for the match is set for 6 p.m.

          SDSU women fall to Eastern Illinois

          CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The South Dakota State University women’s tennis team won three singles matches Friday night, but dropped a 4-3 match to Eastern Illinois at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

          In singles action, Jennifer Sondreal put the Jacks on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Stephanie Harmazy at No. 3 singles. Amy Albrecht, a freshman from Aberdeen, followed that up by upending Samantha Lininger 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Kayla Pruitt closed out singles play defeating Cristina Carrillo 6-0, 6-2.

          Albrecht and Pruitt looked to put the Jacks on the board in No. 3 doubles, but fell to Carrillo and Lininger 8-3.

          SDSU takes on Northern Illinois Saturday in Cedar Falls. Start time for the match is set for 4 p.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
