Ahh, parking lots, it wouldn't surprise if they did turn the old track into a parking lot. Anyone remember the baseball field and tennis courts on campus? I didn't shed a tear over the tennis courts but, I thought the baseball field was pretty nice. Much to nice to turn into a parking lot. The master plan isn't all that masterful, more of wish list with no real plan on specifically when or how it will all be paid for. This isn't a perfect world, and my mother always said that money doesn't grow on trees so we'll all have to be patient. I'd campus rodes without pot holes and classrooms that don't leak water before anything else built on campus. Fix what we have and then build what we need. A new slogan for the next president.

Having experienced the track on campus, I would have to say it is a risk for the university. There are pot-holes and dips that rival the Grand Canyon. Otherwise I cannot see any other place for a track in SD. The wind protection is phenominal. It is a pity that our AD thought to build a horse center before a womens track facility. I am almost ashamed to be jackrabbit fan.

The horse center had to be built...the track would not be for women only. To meet the title requirements something had to be done and at the time this is the wisest move for SDSU. Remember to raise mens scholarships you have to raise womens.

Even though some enjoy blaming everything on FO, this was the right move by the University. The horse facility is being paid by other means also.

The proposed new location(according to the master plan) for the track I would think is more in line with where the future lockerrooms and athletic facilities will be located. I suppose when the track was built that it was located next to the Barn which would still have been used mainly for the athletic department.

Save an outdated, worn facility or try to advance to the 21st Century? Rumors will fly, but right now Sexaur Field is just taking up space.

I have empathy for those that have fond memories of Sexaur Field and Heuther Field for that matter, but it is and was time for new facilities to be planned. Maybe I'm just not sentimental, but I told FO once that if he wanted to tear down Coughlin Alumni Stadium in order to provide a better stadium for football then have at it. It will take time, but there will be a newer and better track facility built. Heuther field was nice, but IMO Bob Sheldon is a great place for baseball. Location isn't ideal, but it is a great baseball stadium, for fans at least, can't comment on it from a players perspective.

I watch my first SDSU football game at State Field which it was subsequently renamed Sexauer Field and the last year it was used the late Joe Thorne led the Jacks to a co NCC championship in 1961. I believe the first year that that the Jacks played football there was in 1913. So all the greats from Cleve Abbott to Pete Retzlaff have memories of playing on that field. So there are some emotional ties to that space of real estate. That said I do agree if there is a better use for the space, then let progress take its course meaning let it be used for what best fits the current needs on campus.

I have tried to use Sexauer as a walking track and even that is not top notch for that purpose. Something has to be done. Either we plunk a ton of dough into making it a first class track facility including new seating or we abandon it and allow it to be used for some other purpose.

A historical marker of some sort would be suffice to recognize its former use as a track/football facility. I keep thinking that some sort of a classroom facility probably fits the best current use of that piece of real estate.

I think i have heard rumblings of a new Pharmacy facility being there.  It would be a great and well deserved addition to that program if it is true.

I have also heard that the baseball practice area and softball fields have been put on hold as of now. Does anybody else know anything about this. I never liked the positioning of the softball field, as it took away half the backyard, but if we are going to start it shouldn't we have the funding to complete it?

I suggest that everybody is wishing for more, bigger, and better sports facilities. I found interesting reading over on the new USD fan board about this subject.

It just goes to show how difficult it is to plan ahead and fund ahead for such things. I remember visiting with the SDSU A.D. several years ago and he referred to the USD D-Dome as a multi-purpose single-use facility, meaning that whenever one event is being held that all others are shut down.
