Re: SDSU Rodeo now on athletics site

Interesting. I wonder if other club sports (hockey, rugby) might show up in the future?

South Dakota State University logo to make debut as new livestock brand

BROOKINGS (AP) - The Coughlin Campanile, prominent on South Dakota State University's campus and its logo, now will identify livestock donated to the school's rodeo program and the SDSU Foundation, the school said in a written release.

"The Campanile brand has been approved by the State Brand Board," Craig Russow of the university's College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences said.

The school has realized a need for a registered brand to be able to move livestock from West River donors involved with the school's Steer for State program to eastern South Dakota feedlots, Russow said.

Livestock sold or removed from West River counties are still subject to ownership inspection.

Steer for State raises money for the SDSU rodeo program. Alumni and donors give steers to the SDSU Foundation. After the steers are fed to a certain weight and are sold, the proceeds go to rodeo scholarships and other budgetary needs of the rodeo program.

The brand is one of more than 25,000 registered in the state.
