Steve Hallstrom is the WDAY Sports Director up in Fargo. He also has a Blog, and he had some interesting stuff that he posted last night.

I talked to a couple Big Sky people today just to see what the current buzz is.
Commish Fullerton said he had a conference call with his AD's a couple days ago and for the first time he gained a sense that they now understand how difficult basketball scheduling is with 9 teams. He said some AD's want to look at adding a 10th member, but he thinks that going to 12 teams is the way to go, which he's been lobbying for for the last few months. When I asked him what options he sees out there for adding 3 more teams he said there were 2 schools in North Dakota that had positives and one in South Dakota. I asked him about the past conversations we've had when he said UND would not get a look unless they had moved to Division 1. He said that's still a concern, but just the fact that he brought UND up makes me think the Sioux may have a chance to do what they've wanted to all along, and that is get the conference invite before making the move. . . .
I also talked with Jim O'Day who's the AD at Montana. He echoed the concerns about a 9 team league, but said some people in the conference would vote for adding an associate member for basketball rather than bring on a brand new school that wasn't in the right location (hint-hint). He said that SDSU and NDSU look very much like their schools, and says there's a decent chance they'll someday be part of the Big Sky, but in his words, it will "take a while". If a while means more than a year, things could get stressful at NDSU, since the Bison are basically 2 years away from being playoff eligible in FB and BB. Jim said expansion will definitely come up at the spring meetings.
Big Sky presidents meet on May 23rd in Missoula. Things may get interesting then.

As you all know, I personally would rather be in the Mid-Con/Great West for a number of reasons. However either conference would be fine with me. I just don't want to get my hopes up with the Big Sky as they have jerked us around more then once already.
