Great news about the Mid-Con! Especially after digesting all the bad news from the last few months about basketball team defections, etc.

Given the location of my home, I've always held out a selfish hope that the Jacks would join the Big Sky (I live three hours from Big Sky member Idaho State). However, since the Big Sky remains a slave to its commuter-school members in the west, I would welcome a Mid-Con invite. In other words, what will become a huge loss for the Big Sky will also become a huge gain for the Mid-Con. As flagship universities, NDSU and SDSU can do nothing but grow in both institutional and athletic prestige. I don't know if the same can be said for Sacramento State, Northern Colorado, etc.

I trust the Mid-Con will recognize this. The BSC seems to be blundering along when it comes to expansion. The Mid-Con should not make the same mistake. Perhaps I'm biased in my views.

WDAY reported that the Big Sky will have expansion on the plate in just over a week.

I hope the Mid-Con wins. I still feel like the BSC led us on. The 1 they took was the lesser of the 3, IMO.

As we all knew they eventually would. Again, patience remains the key. If an offer comes and after careful analysis is deamed appropriate for SDSU, then we take that opportunity and don't look back.

The conference membership situation seems to have completely turned around courtesy Chicago State . . . a conference membership invitation would go a long way towards providing some badly needed stability for the men's basketball program as well as all the other sports.

Great point Filbert, before we can right the ship we need to stop it from rocking. A conference could do just that.

Is there a mid continet Conference Message Board - would be nice to see how fans of their teams are reacting to this. I searched but couldn't find any good boards. Anyone who is good at searching able to find one?

Some of the schools have boards, none are as active as the Jackrabbit or Bison boards. Oral Roberts and Valpo's are the most active.

The Rapid City Journal has now published an Associated Press article about the SDSU/Mid-Con possibilities.  There is nothing new in the article.  If you wish to read it:

SIOUX FALLS (AP) - The NCAA Division I Mid-Continent Conference has asked for information and material about South Dakota State University, according to Fred Oien, SDSU's athletic director.

It marks the second time in two years that a Division I conference decided to check out the Brookings school.

Oien would not say any more about the eight-team conference's action.

"This was not a deal for us to put a press release out - it's a conference issue," Oien said. "The bottom line is we've been contacted. Any further information has to come from the Mid-Con office."
