No, you are correct it is indeed Dietel. My bad. Its always nice to set on an extra scholly in case a transfer pops up.

I don't think we want, or need, a half-season out of her (at best) with our guard depth.

I agree here. I have not seen her play in person either. But, for what's its worth - and apparently nothing - Waytashek is the real deal. I suspect she will be in the starting line up. I applaud Jen Shut's effort and her willingness to stick with it but she will again come off the bench behind some very talented freshmen.

As for starting lineups and rotations...It's all speculation right now, and that's always fun for us fans. I don't necessarily look at the starting lineup, I look at the rotation and minutes played. Especially since we usually about 10 players regularly during a game. Looking at last year's stats of our returning players Rotert averaged 27.5 minutes a game, Michelson 24.2, Young 22.4, Dietel 17.4, Sunnarborg 16.5, Schuttloffel 12.5, and Eide 11.0. That's seven players returning who averaged more than 10 minutes a game. That's a lot! Paluch and Lingle weren't far behind at 7.4 and 7.1 minutes respectively.

With so many interchangeable parts, there are numerous lineup combinations we could have on the floor at any given time. Now at times we can put Rotert on the floor with a wing kind of like her in Waytashek (she is not a post player as some may think), and keep the likes of Sunnarborg/Dietel/Schuttloffel (two of the three) on the floor with them in the post, along with Michelson at point. That's a long and versatile lineup.

Strop is very physical like Shut and will also IMHO earn minutes. I love the potential rotations over the next couple of years. I still would love to see a long athletic center that can run the floor, finish around the basket and block shots. There are a few of them in the 2011 class in Minnesota.

If you're in uniform on AJ's team chances are you are going to get minutes.

Cassie Rochel has gone to Wisconsin,Pam Borton of the gophers should have never let her get away. She's going to be great in the Big Ten.
I think Mercedes Stotesbery should be considered, she had a great Miss basketball Showcase tournement. She's 6'2"?She can consistently score points. That's what i look for, someone steady, not put up 25 one night & 6 the next.Everybody has a bad night once in awhile, but you should be fairly consistent, take advantage of every mismatch you can in each & every game.

                  Schuttlofel-----------Waytashek

                  Macie----------------Heiser

Most of the experience will start and there is enough depth that the subs will be able to gain experience with the starters as the season goes on.

What I like to think about is the 3 guards with macie leading the charge but Rotert increasing her ability to drive and post and shooting should only help Young to be able to spot up for 3s more with out rushing her shot which seemed to happen a lot last year.

Maria last year had the touch and scoring ability down low but I feel Sunny and Schutt have more toughness that is always important to have.

                  Overall I Like our chances.
Houston, we have a problem. At least a potential problem. I had conversation a few days ago with people in the know and they tell me that Macie has a doctors appt this Wednesday, August 4th (?) to determine if she will need surgery on her foot or not. Ouch! If surgery is required we could be without her for sometime. I understand she is still having significant pain in her foot that really limited her activity this summer. If she would not be available or 100% that leaves us very thin and young at guard play. Macie has her faults but she is a huge part of this team. Hopefully she gets good news. Lets wish her luck come Wednesday.

Young, Yes!, Thin... no, I don't think so. I think Ashley, Steph and Tara provide three very good options at Point. I was very impressed with Ashley last year, Steph while she didn't play a lot was consistent and for the most part in control when in, and in my opinion, Tara was the best guard in that class and took the redshirt. Who knows how much she developed, but I suspect AJ knows what he is doing.

That said I wish Macie the best, because her energy is amazing on the floor. Here is a weird question... for the life of me I can't remember, and should go look it up but am just going to ask, If Macie is not going to be available for a significant part of the season, did she already use her redshirt? or is that available to her if needed?

God I hope Macie is alright. Maybe this should've been looked at before now. Ashley is not a PG and having to rely on a redshirt FR at the point is not a desirable option.

with jill and Kristin, and the guards off the bench would be a able replacement. Not the best option but would not end our season by any means.

We are at our best when Macie is on the floor. Agree that Ashley is not a point guard type...her talents are as a wing. With Steph, Tara, Jill, and Kristen, things can work.
Here's hoping for a fast recovery for Macie.

Steph @ PG isn't a bad idea, especially since she's got a pull-up jumper that will force teams to defend her as a scoring threat. Macie's too streaky as a shooter to require close attention to her shot on defense (remember the first half of the USD game?)

Although you've got to love Macie for all the stuff she does that can't be tracked statistically.

Macie has not used a redshirt year.

Keep in mind that surgery has not yet been determined as necessary. As I understand it Macie has an appointment with her doctor to decide IF surgery is the only option. Lets all hope things work out for Macie.

With the difficulty the Lady Jacks had last year getting the ball up the floor against quality pressure we really need Macie in the line up. Has anyone else on this team or incoming players had experience at point guard? Most are listed or played 2 or 3 spot in both high school and so far in college.
