42 to 17 at the half. Jacks sound good and WIU sounds equally bad.

93-47. A good mo-building win. And Ketty C. tops the 1,000-point mark. A good night and good regular season. Thanks, Ketty, Maria and Alison.

                Good to hear.

Let's bring that moxie into the tournament, shall we?

FWIW-- Think the Westerwinds nickname was dropped this year. Theyze all Leathernecks now.

Quote from last years game with Baylor via Baylorfans.com

"I haven't seen this many white girls on a team since I was in HS, but they can hoop it. We need to step up the D and cool them off."

This quote stuck in my mind after comments about the difference in athleticism with IUPUI's men's team. Frankly white men may be able to jump a bit, but not enough to do the job unless there's a lot of 'em. Watching Missouri and South Dakota high school play via TV and the net there's a big difference in raw athletic ability.

I think SDSU's men's team has to be more like the women's team in that it will need lots of depth to effectively compete. Either that or doing a better job of urban recruiting. Going ten or twelve deep on the bench is doable. The women's teams have worn them down. Finding a dozen good if not great players for the men's program is going to be necessary since I doubt if the top five will be able to effectively compete person to person with some of these programs from Oakland, ORU or IUPUI. Looking at next year's roster, I think we're well on our way in the men's program. There's a lot of pretty good players coming up. They don't have to be Jonathan Jones if there's a dozen of 'em.

I honestly think its a historical factor still playing a big part, namely the Homestead Act of 1862. It brought the Northern European immigrants to the Dakotas and not much as changed except for human reproduction of their kind with strong backs and closed minds. Its the "stuck in the mud" factor at its best, but we are loud and proud.

Seriously, I believe SDSU has several programs that attempt to widen the area of recruitment for academic and athletic programs alike. Getting a network going in urban areas takes time and effort. Its something unheard of in the 1960's. I fear our athletic teams will have a BYU look for some time to come. Also Peggy Miller started an office of diversity which I assume most of these programs are tied to that function. We hear very little about diversity and is it happening on campus? Seems like the current push is to rebuild the entire campus, sort of like Field of Dreams. Build it and they will come.

The 2010 Census for South Dakota will be interesting to see in terms of racial makeup. We may find some changes, but not many.

You at least want to make the teams "of color" enough so that you don't get too many comments like the one on the ORU board stating that a trip to the Dakotas was like a visit to a Klan rally. If your memories of Brookings in the sixties are like mine, you know that comment wouldn't have been that far off. Today it's a bad rap, but one that shouldn't be ignored.

I think the fact that AJ has has so much success with recruiting in South Dakota, Wisconsin, and non-metro Minnesota area is the largest contributer to the make-up of the team.

Now, if he feels that he needs to take a foray into the Metro Cities area or outside his "recruiting radius" then we will see changes. But, I am always apart of the group that says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
