Re: respect or lack of it...

Last night, number 13 ranked Texas A&M beat Gonzaga by the exact same margin of victory as we did,4 pts.Arizona State was also within 4 pts of #6 Baylor last night.Playing the type of teams we play can only help us prepare for post season play.A system will not come about without good players. We have good players. What we see from Oral Roberts fans is not an honest appraisal of our team, but rather the resentment of our teams successful season's since joining the Summit. They might not recognize it as resentment in thier eyes, but they have to rationalize our success in some other way besides saying we simply have better players.

The main difference is in the past performance of the women's program and the men's program.

Howevere, it is more likely that what we're experiencing in both programs may be "the new normal" that more often than not we can expect going into the future. Just look at the records of the other Summit League schools in both men's and women's basketball right now. So in that respect, perhaps fan expectations need to be managed somewhat for both programs.

Remember what Tom Hanks said, " Are you crying? There's no crying in baseball " Maybe there is a double standard, but i don't think the women are doing that bad to get all upset about really , considering we are not afraid to develop our young players for the future.I think the upper classmen will come around the more it sinks in that this is thier last year to play & time starts running out.

I refuse to temper my enthusiasm for our basketball program....we are going undefeated the rest of the season, we'll win the auto bid , seeded 10....first round, we blow out our opponent, second round,we upset our opponent, 3rd upset,4th upset, squeek by Conn by 1 pt & send shock waves reverberating throughout the basketball world........j/k (or not?)

If we are going to be looking to how we win the National Championship and shock the world, I say that we sandbag so that we are the last team in and get to play the #1 Uconn Women in the first round. Upset them on a last second three pointer then we can go thru the rest of the tournament with the most press SDSU has ever seen. Tis the season to make wishes...right?

So I'm back checking in on the Wabbits after taking a couple of weeks to get over the stinker we laid against you guys and I find this post. Can someone please point out the smack talk from the MT board? The comments I read say:
"The Rabbits' defense has been excellent."
"A 26-point loss at an unranked team will not impress anyone."
"SDSU was a trap game, sandwiched, between a big win at Louisville and Western Kentucky."

That hardly strikes me as "smack." It sounds much more like statement of facts and even one of praise.

I just went over to the MTSU board just to see what they were saying and the only comments I could find were basically smack against us... in the chat on Bracketology there is smack from an Oral Roberts fan... it just is ridiculous.

We have not for the most part played great ball yet, but, until you can beat us... shut up and go home. OR you will have your chance on Jan 4. You have a fabulous Freshman, but you know what... we have three, not to mention, you still have to beat the TEAM of SDSU...

I forsee this team getting better and better, they will find their identity and they will be, by the end of the season a top 15 team in the country even if not ranked...

Sorry, will get off my soap box now... the lack of respect just burned me.
Maybe they have good reason to talk smack huh?

Not really. Jacks beat them by 26.

By the way I still think you have the team to beat overall. I just have to chuckle at a few Jacks fans. Maybe this loss will bring them back to earth and get thier heads out of the clouds.

It was an Oral Roberts fan who was talking. Do your homework before being PO'd.

Not all heads have been in clouds, Bisonbacker. Been a lot of serious discussion on this board about this team's challenges. We did beat MTSU, which your post referenced, by a mile. Game with the Bison in a few days will be very interesting.

We got alot of respect last year, but that was last year. IMO, a team has to go out every single year and prove themselves again.
I guess we proved the accuracy of SoDakJack's comment tonight. ORU didn't display much concern for how we did last year. But, I'm still optimistic about our team. We just have to put it all together and keep it together.

Right on, keep your heads up. We aren't half way through the season. This team can build and improve. Let's see how it all plays out.

Those two freshman from ORU were darn impressive. I like the competitiveness of the league, as I think NDSU, SDSU, Oakland, and ORU can build the Summitt up to a solid mid-Major conference in Women's Basketball.

Now, if the Men could step it up conference wide, the Summitt League could become a serious player in the mid-Major ranks.

i still dont get how there is this huge following of womens bball, but only 30 or so posts on this board. Is this in smack yet? Im just curious, no smack whatsoever. but you guys should have a lot more following on your own message board.

i fully expect sdsu to use this as motive to win the summit now.
