    Re: GDT-Virginia

We out-rebounded one of the best rebounding teams we'll see all year. If we play more consistent defens and take care of the ball we beat #15 Virginia by about 10. There'll be a couple more bumps in the road, but once we get to conference play, things will settle down.

Steph Paluch's play is a big positive. Seems like she's played herself into the regular lineup. It also seems like Ketty's starting to get going, which is really important. We probably need 10 points out of her consistently to be as good as we should be. Kristen is scoring regularly, which is great, but needs to cut the turnovers. Maria is solid, but also has too many turnovers.

I didn't expect us to be great in these tough non-conference games. We're working a lot of new players into the rotation. Once they figure it out and get more comfortable in their roles, the turnovers will decrease.

They're going to be really good by the end of the year, 11- or 12-deep and the kind of team nobody's going to want to see in the tournaments.
    Holy nutmeg!

      Re: GDT-Virginia

Anybody that's ever played on teams with oversized expectations knows that every year is different, that it takes some teams longer to get an identity, that losing even one or two key players affects the entire team in ways no one ever anticipates, and that it's a heck of a lot harder staying on top than it is getting there.

The Jacks have a coach who recognized all this long before the season started, and said so beforehand. From a coaching standpoint, that's as impressive as taking any team on a 32-win ride. He's earning every one of his dollars every bit as much as last year, maybe moreso because the bandwagon ain't so full.

Reality check: A few posters started off the year talking about tournament seeds. Now some posters are making it sound like the season is lost six games in. This team still beat a very good Gonzaga team and played a pretty good Virginia team toe-to-toe for most of the game last night.

Some awfully good, but awfully young players are finding their way right now. This season is going to be more interesting than last year, IMHO. I'd bet real money no team will want to play the Jacks in March.

The better the freshmen play this yr.,the better the team will be the next three years also, we will be able to develop next year's freshmen more slowly. It will be just about as bad losing the seniors at the end of this season as it was losing last yr's seniors. We have to continually develop players into the same type of quality players we lose.On a side note, i was very impressed with the team against Virginia, the first part of the game, we played I don't know how many minutes and it was 11-6 or something, & i thought, wow, we must be pretty good at something, only behind by 5 & haven't even made a field goal in the game yet.It was that way for just about the entire game.Usually, a team like Virginia will destroy a team that is not playing well, we hung right with them despite our turnovers.I thought, if we ever play a clean game , it's going to be another TCU.

Everyone has to cut down on turnovers. Part of the reason Rotert and Boever have more turnovers might be be due to the fact they played 35 minutes.

                Re: GDT-Virginia

Just wanted to clarify, I am still so excited to watch/listen to this team. Every game is a new excitement and you can see them getting better and better. The opportunity to watch great basketball every time they step on the floor is a gift I enjoy over and over again.

I don't remember who said that they would bet by the end of the season we will be a team nobody wants to play... I wouldn't take that bet with my worst enemies money. Nobody wants to play us now...watch out when we get it together.

Congratulations to Maria & Kristine for making the Junkanoo Jam All-Tournament team. Making the top five players from the teams of Virginia, Illinois and UNC speaks well for their play and the SDSU team.
