Re: Gonzaga GDT
The turnovers were more in part caused by the quickness of the Gonzaga guards, the switching defenses from man to zone about everytime down court, first game jitters, new players coming in, and just settling in on the situation and a lack of being aggressive. The first half was where the most turnovers happened and as the game wore on the turnovers dropped. Gonzaga was way ahead in the turnover ratio but as the Jacks got aggressive they commited fewer and forced the zags into them. In the final five minutes and into overtime Ketty turned into a beast and was diving, running, and powering into the middle causing turnovers, steals and rebounds.
Macie told me last summer that they learned something from the Oakland game when they got beat down bad last year. And in the second half last night I think they remembered that lesson. Never quit. As a famous poster on here says "I think we'll be okay."

Re: Gonzaga GDT
Gonzaga Athletic dept article on the game. Read it and get pissed, it's South Dakota STATE, not South Dakota.

In your article about the Gonzaga-South Dakota State womens basketball game you keep refering to South Dakota State as South Dakota.
There is another school in South Dakota that uses that moniker, it is the Univ of South Dakota. By using South Dakota instead of South Dakota State is misleading and we graduates of State find it very offensive.
Although you mean SDSU the article infers a totally different school and team. South Dakota is a D-1 transitional team nowhere near the caliber of South Dakota State.
As rivals in a great basketball game this shows us from State a great disrespect and diminishing of our accomplishments.

I understand the frustration that some have with the wrong name being used, especially after the success the team has had, but I don't think that anyone is trying to slight the program.
The game last night was one of the best Jackrabbit basketball games I have been to in the regular season. It was a totally different feel. There were some things that concerned me, but I will save them for a later date. It was the first game against a quality opponent this year afterall.-South Dakotan by birth, a Jackrabbit by choice.

Re: Gonzaga GDT
It was in the Gonzaga Univ Athletic dept write up not the Spokane paper. They should know better. Especially someone in the SID's office. If we are to get the national recognition that the Jacks deserve we need to be recognized as the school we are. Not South Dakota, not San Diego State but South Dakota State. It's not Ohio Univ for Ohio State, its not Oklahoma for Oklahoma State. It may not matter to some, but it matters to the school and should matter to the alumni and players to get the recognition they deserve.

Did you note the picture with the following caption?---
Tiffanie Shives hits a 3-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Must have used a file photo. I don't know if the shooter is Shives, but the defender is no Jackrabbit. An ardent supporter of the hometown team should go to a game prepared to take offense, no matter what happens.Robert Benchley

The Jacks have only been in the national spotlight on this level for a couple years. Continued success will bring the consistant coverage.-South Dakotan by birth, a Jackrabbit by choice.

Re: Gonzaga GDT
It's really more of a slight to USD than SDSU.
The writer correctly referred to SDSU to start the article off, and then (apparently) just assumed South Dakota was an acceptable short hand.
As though that school down in Vermillion didn't even exist.
Was more surprised by "Kelly Cornemann" and "Maria Boevers".

Re: Gonzaga GDT
Great win for the Jackrabbits. I thought the team showed a lot of mental toughness throughout the game. We overcame a lot of turnovers, a subpar shooting night from the perimeter, and we were playing a very good team. Many teams would have folded after the start we had. We all were wondering how our team would react to these situations with new people needing to lead. I'd say they showed last night we are going to be just fine. We made plays when they counted, and it was many different players coming through for us.

Re: Gonzaga GDT
was unable to listen to the game, while at work but followed a bit on game tracker. Were both teams sharper on D or just off shooting nights? I Know first game of year and both great teams but seemed our 3 pt percentage was for a lack of a better word aweful. were they rimin out or bad shots taken? Would love for Boever, Dietel and sunnaborg to get a solid inside gaming going to allow for more outside shots instead of just forcing them. Not saying that was the case but our post players and forwards can set the tone and let the 3 come when its time. I can not wait to see these girls play and prove this is a team that is different from last year but still a force to be reckoned with."The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer

Plenty of air balls and shots put up way too strong, Dietel had a lot of balls that hit off the bottom of the iron from in close. some due to pressure, some just bad shots.
