  • Preseason top 25

The 2009-2010 LIndy's Magazine I picked up today has a top 25 list for women's basketball. They pick the Jacks as #24. Opponents Middle Tennessee State is tabbed #21 and Arizona State # 15. Potential opponent Virginia is # 11.

Excellent. It's huge to be in the preseason top 25. As long as things start well, we don't have to climb that mountain to gain enough recognition to just get into the listing. I'm all focused on football right now, but this gets me a little pumped for basketball...

This is great! Unfortunately, we play #15 ASU in 2nd game. Hopefully, the Jacks will get after ASU, and they're still figuring out how all their parts go together. In watching the NCAA tourney last year, I was impressed that ASU was one of the few other programs that run the platoon system like AJ does. That should be a great showdown in the desert.

One thing that the WBB team has proven over the last few years is that nobody is going to outwork the ladies from this area of the country. The secret is deifinitely out that if you are playing SDSU you better be ready for a battle from tip to buzzer. We're not going to sneak up on anyone. How can you when you are ranked pre-season?

The team this year is going to be deep and it will be hard for any player to be the focus of the opponents defense.

Frankly, I like our chances against just about anybody we play on this year's schedule.

It should be another fun year!

The thing that would set ASU(Arizona State University) back is the fact that they lose, their best player to the WNBA draft Briann January.

"A two-time Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and named first-team All-Pac-10 in 2009, January concluded the 2008-09 regular season second in the nation in 3-point FG pct. (.469) and 12th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1). Her 65 3-pointers set a new school single-season record while her 167 assists were fourth on the school's all-time single-season list." That is a big loss.

I believe this is a bigger loss than SDSU has to get over. Should be an interesting game.

Gonna argue with you there. Let's not kid ourselves, a certain young woman from Willow Lake was a big chunk of the heart and soul of last year's team. .

True, I do agree with ya that Jenn was a big part of the team; but what I mean is that alot of the scoring, defensive intensity was led by Briann at ASU. Those kinda stats are pretty good and hard to replace where ever you are and her presence alone being gone will set them back further than SDSU. I also think that the loss of Jenn will be one that would be able to fill, as time after time SDSU have found pieces to fit the loss of it's star players.
The way I see it is everyone is better than last year, and this year will be another great year regardless of who is there, or isn't there.

Someone at Lindy's was paying attention to what the jacks accomplished last year , enough so to rank them pre-season without proving a thing, soley based on expectations of what the team should accomplish this year.
I think it's quite an honor, especially losing the quality of players we did to graduation.

                      Re: Preseason top 25

Slam Magazine has listed their preseason Top 10. They list three mid majors in the Top 10, and SDSU is NOT one of them. Two of our opponents are listed: Middle Tennessee State (8th) and Gonzaga (10th). I know they are both going to be very very good teams, but 8th and 10th? Slam magazine obviously has no credibility.

It would not surprise me terribly if Middle Tennessee State is close to a top 10 team. I believe we were a top 20 team last year, or better, and could hold our own with some of the top 10 teams. I think MTS is going to be a VERY tough team for us to beat when they come to Frost.

Rating our opposition from toughest game in ooc, i'd rate both Gonzaga & MTS right near the top also, Gonzaga will be tough because it's so early & we'll just have 2 exhibition games to work out the kinks,& then right into a very, very tough game.I think that game should test our team ,& i think that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I agree with jackdaniel and Jacks#1Fan in that both Gonzaga and Middle Tennessee State will be two of our strongest opponents this year. That being said they are not pre season Top 10 teams.

Who is, then? The point of these pre-season predictioins is to make educated projections, and both seem defensible based on records and what they have coming back.
