    Re: Next Year

Had some time to kill, so i've been going through our Summit league rivals recruits for 2009.Seems to me they're all pretty much going after a little better recruits.Oakland in particular was some what facinating in that almost all thier recruits had a high number of steals per game stat.hmmm....they do like to play pressure defense don't they now? Hopefully, the league teams can win some OOC games next year so our rpi will improve, although, it was very good last year anyway.Westerwinds are going for speed with 3 pt shooting ability.Jags went for 2 centers plus 2 small forwards.IPFW has solid group, the word athletic was used to describe a lot of thier players, seems like everyone looks for the taller girls to be able to hit shots out on the perimeter too, guess you have to be more & more versitile as a player now days.UMKC has two gaurds plus 3 forwards, good solid players.Well,we should still have the upper hand , but the competition is getting better. The Summit League might just be getting better next year, now if we could only get better ref"s hmmm?

Based on our opponents to date, we could be a 3X-3 again next season. So far, only U VA is likely to be a top 30 pre-season. Utah will be a year strong, and bringing back the MWC best team, and it's in Ogden. Gonzaga, UNI and WKU are in Brookings. Hope we can work out some 1-n-1 home/home with Big 12 or Big 10 LEADERS. Would love to get Purdue on in to Brookings

Purdue & SDSU have a common opponent early in the season next yr.Both play Virginia. Purdue in the Big Ten vs ACC challenge, SDSU in the early tournement in the Bahamas. It's only one common opponent , but It'll give you some idea of how we compare with Purdue...i personaly think purdue will be better than last year, i think we'll be as good or better next year too.

        Re: Next Year

The Oral Roberts University women's basketball team has recruited three of the best guards in the state of Oklahoma,we recruited three of the best gaurds in South Dakota.Seems it's tit for tat with them in that regard.I think in the whole summit league, teams are all going after better recruits more than ever. They've all seen the success we've enjoyed, & i think they all want to have that success too.I think the teams this year might actually raise our RPI a bit for next year if Summit teams can beat some big name schools in the OOC portion of thier schedules. We still have the upper hand with all our experience we've gotten with playing a deep bench. But, if the conference gets better, we have to be a little better yet, to keep our position at the head of the pack.Other posters have wished for the conference to improve, me too, as long as we remain better than they are.

Next season, I believe AJ will need a more blananced game with a bit more focus on the inside game with Maria and Jenny.

Personally, I think had we fed Maria and Jen more in the post we would have scored more and put Baylor into deep foul trouble, but we kept pumping up fruitless/forced shots from the outside and it costs us in the end.

Finally, I don't see how you can keep Jill out of the starting line up. I would at least seeing her there in place of Kris in certain games. I could also see Maria, Ketty, Kristine, Jill and Macie starting some games as well, depending on size of other team.
I was going back through some of the posts, when I read this I agreed with this totally, but then I thought, but it's hard to change your style of play you've played all year long with great success when you're "going with what got us here".If we have games where we have the luxury of doing so, or maybe in practice only, of playing a different type of game, just for the purpose of having more in our arsenal for the games that might need a different style of play .I'm probably second guessing too much, what we did with Baylor was working, but when you lose, well, we're getting pretty spoiled with winning now aren't we?

I understand Leah Dietel has already made some positive impressions with her new teamates.

Glad to hear that , hope they all bond together to achieve thier goals.I think a team plays better if they genuinely like each other.

                Re: Next Year

Can anyone predict what style of basketball we'll play next yr? Will it be up-tempo with the new recruits we have comming in? Will the "bigs" be regularly shuffled in & out to keep up with all the speedsters we'll have next yr? Will we simply wear teams out with our deep bench. We have scorers for sure, but which players are gonna be the "rebounders", the assist leaders, the defensive shut down artists,....etc.Who'll show the most improvement next year, who'll have a "break out yr?It will be fun to look back in the middle of the season next year& see who called it like it is.My prediction, we'll be a very fast team, the bigs will be regularly shuffled in & out to keep up with the gazelles.Just about everyone of the veterans will be improved, our defense will be very, very good.I know these are generality's, but i'm really not that good of a detailed analyist.(SP?)Most improved...Vanessa Johnson, break out player....Kristen Rotert or Ketty & Sunnarborg.(can't decide )Maybe all three, might as well throw in jill too, since i can't decide.Very exciting team to watch i'm guessing.

                  Re: Next Year

I think AJ is recruiting to the style of basketball he prefers, uptempo and fluid on offense, aggressive on defense. I don't think the style will change as seniors graduate and freshmen come in.

Heard a rumor that Aj was recruiting some girl out of Omaha that was 6' 5". Anyone know who that is or if there is any truth to that. Haven't seen anything on here about her but don't read every post either. Just curious. If we got a big that big that could run the court that would be pretty dangerous.

...........Just a guess, but i think it's Vicky McIntyre of Omaha Marion H.S. a junior at 6'6".

Agreed. I think that this has been proven over the years. It works!!!!

I'm not finding the listing, but there is a 6'5" 2010 grad coming out of a small western IA school (MoValley?) that is just dominating small class IA division. She's smart, she's well rounded (not bb centric), and is looking for a "smaller" D-I program.

Think Jen W. or Leah Dietel, and she's in that mold.

Hallie Christofferson , been mentioned before, experienced a growth spurt, now listed at 6'2" to 6'5" as a junior, most say 6'4" with tennis shoes on , getting more & more Div 1 looks the taller she gets. Can shoot the three & has been known to bring the ball up the court, double & triple teamed most games, still scores points, we better get our bid in, will be senior next year, i suppose she's got all kinds of offers already. We've only got one scholarship left,(thats my understanding) with so many good players out there, the good thing is though , we have good players on the roster now.

Any word or insight on how the team has been looking in off season workouts? I'm assuming they are all on campus. How about the new players?

I have not seen them play but Macie was wearing a boot on Monday. I don't know if it's just protective or what. There were not crutches or anything like that.
