    Re: 2007 Recruits ?

I went to Flandreau tonight and watched McCook Central play. I was really impressed with Kristin Rotert. She will need to lift some weights but she runs really well, handles the ball extremly well, can penetrate, has good anticipation and I can see why AJ has said that she can play the 2 guard. Last year two of us went to Marshall to watch Maria Boover play. Marshall did a pretty good job on her and she did not show how good she is. I know Flandreau is not Marshall but Kristin Rotert showed a lot more promise tonight. She will make an impact next year. It seemed so effortless for her. I know we laymen are not experts but she really looked good. I sat next to one of Flandreau's teachers and he also marveled at her skill level. The future should be good.

I guess I have had a hard time learning the new roster this year and I often looked at the program when Maria checked in and out, but after the U of M game, she will be a very familiar player. Maria is talented as are all of the new players. I suspect I will go through the same process with Kristin Rotert, as she too will be very unfamilar to the fans, but that does not take the talent out of the person. I am sure she will do very well as a Jack and with Vogel leaving us, we need some leadership.

So what is the latest list of recruits that have signed or will sign with SDSU for next season? Rotert..Schuttleoffel..Michelson..for 07 and then Johnson so far for 08..Any others or is that about it. Also what does anyone know about the other Warkenthien that plays for Willow. She scores a lot of points. Is this Jens sister. Looks like she in only a soph but is already 6 ft. Hope she is good enough to keep some family in the jack lineup.

When Jen was a senior in high school we watched Willow Lake play in Brookings. At that time Kayla was in the eighth grade and a spitten image of Jen only about an inch shorter.

In Tuesday girls basketball action, our future recruits did quite well. 2007 recruit Kristen Rotert and McCook Central advanced to the District championship against 2008 verbal Vanessa Johnson and West Central. West Central defeated Parker and NDSU recruit Abby Plucker. At the O'Gorman gym 2007 recruit Jennifer Schutlofel(sp)
and SF Roosevelt defeated NDSU recruit Tessa Wilka and O'Gorman. All in all a good night for our future recruits.

I'm confused...you say McCook beat West Central but then you go on to say West Central beat Parker. Was the WC-Parker game before last night?

I said McCook Central advance to the championship to play West Central who advance by defeating Parker. Does this clear it up?

                        Re: 2007 Recruits ?

We had a chance to see a good game and two SDSU recruits at Tea last night, when McCook Central and senior Kristen Rotert beat West Central and Vanessa Johnson, who is just a junior.

Both looked very good. Johnson did a terrific job on defense shadowing Rotert in the first half and held her to three points. McCook played zone so Rotert didn't have to work as hard. That all showed up in the second half, when I think the defensive effort wore Johnson down some. Her offense suffered just a bit (13 points), but McCook was able to brush off Johnson with a set of screens allowing Rotert to drive the lane, and she finished with 17.

AJ was there enjoying the game as well. It was tight all the way until McCook got a five point lead with about three minutes to go, and then with no shot clock, they just ran down the clock until they found an easy basket, or got fouled and shot free throws.

PS: Jaime Nelson, former Jackrabbit, is the assistant coach for West Central.

That's awesome.  I thought the student section was fanatastic last night.  The way they showed respect to Megan had to be a positive influence on a potential recruit.
