Re: 2007 Recruits ?
Not sure who the top recruits for SDSU are for 2007, but I would say we have a great group of students in SD to recruit from. The SD Elite team Won the 2006 Miss Basketball Showcase in Kearney this weekend and took second a couple weeks ago at the Dakota Showcase in Sioux Falls.
Here is a link to the results from the tournament. You can view individual stats by clicking on the team name.

Re: 2007 Recruits ?
I heard that Kristen Rotert from McCook Central verbally committed to SDSU this past week. The SD Elite team that she played with this summer won all but one of their games. They won the Adidas Tournament in Minneapolis, the Miss Basketball Tournament in Kearney and took second in Sioux Falls at the Dakota Showcase. She will be a great addition to the Women's basketball team for 07-08.

According to the Argus, Rotert's verbally committed to SDSU.
I had the pleasure of announcing her games on the radio at the State Tournament last year. She's dang good. State's very fortunate to have her... Excellent 3-point shooter!I am Ed. Fear me.

Re: 2007 Recruits ?
Liz is a good kid. Who knows what the offers were from us and Augie? I was hoping to see her in a Jacks uniform! She can do a little bit of everything from hitting threes to posting up.
I'm not going to start questioning AJ for one second on his recruiting, he is the man! He's been going after and getting the players he wants.
Good luck to Liz at Augie nest year!

Re: 2007 Recruits ?
Here is an article on Macie
http://www.marshallindependent.com/s...articleID=5228
Being the Independent only keeps their articles up for a couple of days I'm going to post it here.
MARSHALL — Dreams do come true. Macie Michelson’s dream is coming true.
She always had a dream of playing college basketball at the Division I level.
“That’s been my dream since I was like five years old,” she said.
Michelson, a senior-to-be at Marshall High School, will get a chance to live out that dream.
She’s verbally committed to play basketball at South Dakota State University, starting in 2007-08.
She’s been in the Marshall program four years after having played at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton as a seventh-grader. She open enrolled at Marshall as an eighth-grader.
It was older RTR players that served as role models.
“There were a bunch of high schoolers when I was at RTR . . . Grethe Bornhoft, Daynica Drake, Bobbi Sichmeller . . . they pushed to that dream,” Michelson said.
“I was growing up and I watched them play. I wanted to be like them. They were role models because they competed hard and had their heart in the game.”
Michelson picked SDSU over Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Valparaiso (Ind).
She went on campus visits to every school except Valparaiso.
“After my AAU season last year (with the North Tartan 15-year-olds), they sent me letters,” Michelson said. “I found out about the program, and they were lower on the list. They were further away, too.”
At the same time, Northern Iowa became involved in recruiting the Tigers’ point guard.
“They watched me play AAU,” Michelson said. “They watched me play in high school. They sent me letters about every week and called whenever they could.”
The campus in Cedar Falls was attractive.
“They had a good campus,” Michelson said. “It’s really nice. It’s a town the size of Marshall . . . it’s like a small town.”
The UNI program has been strong of late.
“It’s been up and down,” Michelson said. “They’ve been good the last four years with a 6-foot-6 post player. She’s graduated, and now they don’t know
how good they’ll be.”
The Minnesota Gophers started contacting the Marshall player following
last year’s state tournament, in which the Tigers finished runner-up.
“They called me the first time and whenever they could (under NCAA regulations),” Michelson said. “Pam (Borton, the coach) told me there’s an opening. She liked the way I played. She likes my heart.”
The large, spread-out campus was more of a negative than a positive.
“I took an unofficial visit (last spring), and the campus was a little big,” Michelson said. “I met the coaching staff and Kelly Roysland.”
The Gophers became more interested after several players left the team following the 2006 season.
“I thought it was a pretty good program,” Michelson said. “It was exciting, but with all the players leaving, I didn’t know how good their program was the next year.”
The senior guard, who has scored more than 1,500 points during her career, narrowed down the list, finally selecting SDSU.
That school has stayed in contact for the past two years.
“That impressed me,” Michelson said. “They kept sending me letters. They stuck with me for two years.”
There were several factors in her picking SDSU: Its campus, coaching staff and the closeness to home, with Brookings being an hour from Marshall.
She had a campus visit last spring.
“It’s a nice campus,” Michelson said. “It’s a nice basketball program and it’s not in a big town so I won’t get lost very easy.”
She had a chance to meet head coach Aaron Johnston.
“I met the coach and all his assistants,” Michelson said. “I liked them.”
In making the transition to D-I, SDSU was looking for a point guard.
“They said I was the only point guard they were looking at to go there,” Michelson said. “They said they were looking for a specific player to play that position, one that doesn’t go from the two spot (shooting guard) to the one spot (point guard). They told me I was the only one they were looking at. They made me excited.”
SDSU is in the transition period from going from D-II to D-I. It’s beaten D-I schools of late, and it will be eligible for the NCAA tournament in three years.
The Jackrabbits have plans for her to contribute as a freshman.
“They want me to come in and be their point guard,” Michelson said.
She will sign a national letter of intent in November, which is the start of the early signing period.
Michelson, who played with the North Tartan 16-year-olds this year, is glad the recruiting process is over.
“It’s stressful, and I wanted to get it over with,” she said. “It’s all the calls you get and having to say no to places you don’t want to go to.
“I liked SDSU because of the good program they have, the coaching staff and being it’s not a big town and it’s close to home.”
Michelson said the experience of playing at Marshall was beneficial.
“You get to go up and play the best competition in the state,” she said.
“Coming to Marshall was pressure on me at first, but after I got used to everything, it was easy for me.”
Terry Culhane was her first varsity basketball coach, and he worked to develop her at a young age.
“I thought, ‘I have the best coach in the state and, now, how am I going to play?’ It was a different style of basketball (than seventh grade),” Michelson said....

Re: 2007 Recruits ?
“He pushed me to be a better player. If I was doing something wrong, he’d tell me and worked with me to get it right. He really pushed me.”
After playing in two consecutive state tournaments, Michelson will be Marshall’s go-to player this season.
“I have to pick it up a little big more and help the young players out,” she said. “The seniors have to step it up a little bit more. I accept that challenge.”
Michelson is an excellent 3-point shooter and ball-handler. She’s been tops in assists in every year at Marshall High School.
There are things to work on before going to college.
“I need to work on my three-point shot and work on my defense,” Michelson said. “Defense is big in college. I have to be more aggressive and stick with my girl, and keep my quickness up.”
Known for her intensity and competitiveness, Michelson anxiously awaits taking her game to the next level.
“That’s the level I wanted to play at,” she said. “I was just looking at D-I.”
