    Re: 2007 Recruits ?

With Schuttloffel, Rotert, and now Michelson committing for 2007, are the women done recruiting. Does anybody have an idea if they would have other scholarships available...

She seems like quite a get for the AJ and the SDSU community. Having a DI option in Eastern SD gives athletes here in SD and the surrounding states another option to compete at the highest level and attend an academically strong and improving school.

According to the 2005-06 Jackrabbit Athletics Annual Report (pg 25 of 28) they will have 15 total to give in FY 2007.

By my count they should have 4 scholarships open then.

Three have been verbally committed, already.

One is still open unless it has already been given to "walk-on" Helsper. Don't know the answer to that question.

It seems like every year someone also quits unexpectedly. Hope not but could happen again.

Does anyone have news on Jill Young? Do we have still have an offer on the table for her? Is she likely to go out of state so we are no longer persuing her?

I would assume the offer is still there if we have the scholarship to give, from the sounds of the post above, we may have one left for 2007.

Posted on the Argus Leader board:

Jill is considering Kansas State, Creighton and SDSU.

I heard at a team camp this summer, another coach talking and saying that Jill was going to go with Rotert, because they are good friends.

However, since Rotert has already committed, and Jill hasn't this is probably not true.

On the other hand, maybe we have an "inside track" beings that we did sign Rotert?

I thought I would post the SDSU recruiting area and Mid-Con footprint FYI.
                  YACKLEY VERBALS EARLY
Alexis Yackley, a 2008 5-7 guard from Sully Buttes, SD has made a verbal to Iowa State. The 1000 point scorer has started since 7th grade and averaged 16.8 last year. Sully Buttes was 24-2 last year and was 3rd in class B losing to Mitchell Christian in the semis. Yackley played with two AAU/Summer teams this past season: Northern Lites, and Dakota Hardwood Threat. DHT was second at the 16u Adidas tournament held at Bloomington Jefferson this July. Yackley is the second 08 to commit from SD joining West Central's Vanessa Johnson. Story from the Rapid City Journal.

Even though this is not SDSU related I thought it was of interest.  Isn't Blake Yackley playing at SDSU?  He is also from Sully Buttes.  I would have thought that SDSU would have had a really good shot at her.  I am suprised she committed so early, not graduating until '08.

                  Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

A former H.S. classmate of mine and SDSU grad, Eric Bass, coaches the boy's bball team in Sully Buttes(don't know if he coaches the girls though).  I think Eric was a student assistant for Nagy a few years back as well.  So yes, it seems that SDSU is pretty well connected in Sully Buttes.

Matt Sutton is also from Sully Buttes and a huge supporter of SDSU. I beleive Matt is also Blake's grandfather.

One of the state’s best girls’ basketball players in history has made her decision on where’s she’s going to college. Mitchell Christian senior Jill Young gave her verbal commitment to play basketball at Creighton University Thursday night. Creighton is an NCAA Division I school in Omaha, Neb., and Young will receive an athletic scholarship. At the D-I level, no partial scholarships are given, only full rides. (more)

Too bad to hear that. I do believe that the Jacks got the better college player in Rotert, but Jill will do well too. I wish her good luck for the Blue Jays.

I know that she's a great player and will likely do well at Creighton. They went 8-21 last year, so she'll likely get plenty of opportunities.

You can't win them all when it comes to recruiting. I was wondering (before I heard she was interested in SDSU) if she would want to play at SDSU because AJ's teams tend to spread the ball around more than she would be used to now. Perhaps having her on the Blue Jay roster will enable us to get Creighton on the schedule in the near future.

Just a little insight here...Creighton had a lot of advantages..they are a private school (like MC), they are religious based (like MC), they are some what close to home..they are ranked #1 in the Midwest academic wise, and I think #1 in the nation for something? the best some kind of college, I forget...but to some families a $35,000 a year scholarship as opposed to a #9,000 a year scholarship may have had to do something with it?

Well Tutition is no doubt higher there and the education is "ranked" pretty good so who knows what the deal is. And Private schools are usually more expensive so create your own opinion.
