By the way Stu. The Jacks record is now 19 - 2 not 17 - 2. After you win a game you add one to the win total not subtract one. Albeit a slip up by Stu the article was positive about the Jacks season and the fan support.

Good win ladies. Bring on the Bears from Oakland for the pork classic.

I agree with everyone, it was a very poorly played game. To those Bizon fans who seem to think they've narrowed the gap...you're effing nuts. We played our worst game of the year and still got you by 16.

        rabbitintea....

losing (embarassingly ) by 40+ to SDSU.....to playing them chest to chest in first half and losing by 12-14 or whatever it was after the fouls and free throws... IS NARROWING THE GAP!!!

        sorry... it is.

So a 16-point loss is a moral victory?
Just checking on the standards for future reference.

The two teams aren't as close as Bison fans would like to think. We played our worst game of the year, by a loooooooong ways. We had plenty of open shots that we just plain missed. It didn't have anything to with the Bison D. We were getting the looks, they just weren't dropping. Bison did play a very physical game. It was nice to see a team work hard to match the intensity of the Jacks. Players on both sides were hustling and diving all over the floor. Game wouldn't have been close at all if we would have hit our open 3's (and there were a lot of 'em).

Re: A January Stampede of the Bison

I think the Bison can take heart in now being pointed in the right direction when compared to their past several seasons. If any gap (more like a gulf) was narrowed, it was only by a small degree. I talked with one of the Bison coaches after the game and was told they had really studied the Jackrabbits on film and had a defensive game plan which was working in the first half and, combined with cold shooting, caused the first-half score to be tight.

I contend the game in Fargo will be a different affair. The Bison can't adjust much. Their best success was doing what they did in the first half at Frost. That won't win the game, particularly when the Jackrabbits can make lots of adjustments and the off-night on shooting is not likely to happen again.

Good for the Summit League that NDSU's women have a solid coach.

It's really hard to judge based on one game. The Bison played well, and there are a couple of solid young players there. I haven't seen any other Bison games, so I don't know how good they are. You haven't seen any other Jacks games, either. These two teams will meet once and possibly twice more this season. I would argue that the gap remains substantial, based on overall records this year. NDSU is 8-9. SDSU is 19-2 and has played a much tougher schedule. We're leading the conference and ranked in the top-20 nationwide, having beaten three Big 10 teams, among others.

Based on what I saw in Brookings, the game in Fargo could be closer, or it could be a humongous blowout for the Jacks. NDSU can't play much better. SDSU can't play much worse.
                Holy nutmeg!

Re: A January Stampede of the Bison

Given that the Bison played seven players all night long, I think they made a pretty impressive showing, although the Jacks certainly did not play as well as we have seen that they can--missing numerous open shots that normally would go in throughout the game, for instance. Once they opened up a lead though, you could just feel in the arena that it would be extremely tough for the Bison to make a sustained run to get back into it and then have enough left in the tank to finish off the game.

The Jacks when playing poorly are still a superior Summit League team--the Bison got the Jacks on an off night and still lost by 16. But the Bison are improving--you could definitely see that. The lack of depth I think hurt them a lot. They'll be a team to reckon with next year, and the game in Fargo will definitely not be a gimme for the Jacks.

Legit question: It was a worse game than the loss to Oakland? I didn't watch either game so I'm just wondering.

These were pretty much my conclusions, and the game in Fargo could be a different affair, but NDSU has won enough to make the tourney in Sioux Falls and thats one TEAM we might hope ARE TAKEN OUT in the first round by some other Summit League member, and that we dont have to face them for a third time. Odds are better the third time around for the opponent who lost the first two, plus some of those injured might be back playing by then which would give them more bench strength. Someone over on Bisonville told me that No 31, Samuelson is a transfer from Colorado State, and is coming off an injury and is still getting stronger. She had a good game I thought Saturday night. My point is, we dont want to scoff too much at the Bison, as the season is not over by any means. There are two potential meetings between NDSU-SDSU.

I am not surprised they watched film on the Jacks, and this Bison team is well coached. Lakesbison enjoys being obnoxious, but I think we need to respect this upcoming team. We probably scoffed a great deal at their football team in 1964, but the scoffing became the Bison privilidge for many years after 1964, so be careful. Confidence is one thing but over confidence loses games.

I agree with this statement. I think the Summit League might be a 3 team for several years. NDSU is a much better than they were last year. I know SDSU played a terrible/ugly game but NDSU caused some of that. I'm not saying there weren't open shots but some of them were contested. When NDSU gets a full team they will be tougher. SDSU is the better team but the gap has narrowed. I think SDSU's Women's team will be better than NDSU's next year but they should be good games to watch.

Every game this year we've scored below 60 pts., we've lost.Thought that was an odd occurance.
correction....didn't see the 55-50 win against Missouri, but this was a horrible shooting night for the jacks , but they still got the win with defensive effort holding Missouri to 50 pts.Better open my eyes this morning. Beat UC Davis 59-47.(2-2 when under 60 pts.)(17-0 over 60 pts.)This tells me the teams we're most likely to struggle with are the ones that play really hard on defense.

I would think this statement to be true for every team... tougher the D tougher it is to score, tougher it is to win...

I also am not so sure that NDSU's D was so tough, we missed a TON of chippers and open looks... I can think of three shots that were in the net and came back out again too... A few more of those shots fall, We would have pulled away in the first half... just felt like an off-night for the Jackrabbits Saturday...

This is what I noticed. At 1 point we were 2 of 3 behind the 3-point line and (about) 1 of 10 from inside it. Only 1 of those shots were from outside 5 feet. They were all layups or really short jumpers. I think SDSU pushed it low so hard that they just threw up tough shots when they were double/triple teamed down low.
I think at that point SDSU was down 8 to 3 in turnovers, too.
