As to the refs against ORU remember. God and Oral Roberts are tight and they can control things as to their liking.
Yes. A womens ball has 28.5 on the ball. I would think it would have been the first thing the official that was going to throw up the jump ball would have looked for.

How emberassing for the ref that made that call. This thing just floors me. I'm not a basketball player so I have no idea the process goes but my I'm assuming there are two balls at the scorer's table on a doubleheader night or does the ref bring them. It surprises me that someone at the table didn't catch it first. Then it seems like you always see a ref bouncing the ball before it gets tossed up. The players would notice it immediately but like others have said, once you started the game with a ball then you should finish it with the same one. My point is that this thing made probably made it through a few people that should have caught it. Really, really bad on the ref that screwed up.

In the end its like the poor officiating in the first place. Hopefully it affects both teams in a similar fashion.

AJ didn't seem to upset by the whole thing. He said something to the affect of people take things to seriously in college athletics, sometimes you just have to laugh at things.

I'm not saying that is how they should do things at SDSU.... somebody asked who picked out the ball and I just said thats how they do things at BH.... I don't know how they do it at SDSU..... I did not know that the players noticed it earlier, the way I understood it was that it wasn't discovered until the second half..... Not trying to say that the players are dumb or anything, I was just saying that if the players didn't notice it how should the refs (again before somebody informed me that the players recognized it earlier).....

Just think how it would be if they played with an out of balance ball like they use at the carnivals to make people miss. And those watching the game weren't you kind of asking yourself like I was about all the airballs falling short of the rim especially the shots from downtown.

You mean those carnival games are rigged?

I just thought we had all spent too much time in the beer tent.

reveroo you are completely wrong. the womens balls that they use do not have 28.5 on them anywhere. they are just smaller and lighter so I can sort of see how the referees messed up

The responsiblity lies on the officials. My question is there anything in the NCAA girls BB rule book that would address this mistake. I am sure there is not so I my opinion when it was discovered they should have stopped the game and let each team rewarm up and shoot for 5-10 minutes and then resume the game. Isn't this the game that AJ got Teed up for what the official thought was an outburst directed at the official, when in reality AJ was getting on one of his own players.

Has anyone heard if the officiating crew was reprimanded?

Very interesting fact related to this thread:

The NCAA introduced the first women's basketball in 1984 which was one inch smaller than a regulation men's ball. The wonam's ball was 28.5 compared to the 29.5 men's ball. The WNBA did not begin until 1997 however, so the first WNBA game was played with an official 28.5 women's basketball.

Good quote from Aaron Johnston regarding the balls: "I kind of laugh about it now. Sometimes we all take ourselves really serious here in college athletics, with something like that, if you can't all get a chuckle out of it, I think we're really missing out."

did the officiating crew get reprimanded or not? And how?
                            thanks

I don't think you'll ever hear specifics about what is said or done to officials, as they have to continue working, and information about how a matter was handled might impact the way they manage games.

Not that the Summit League officials are anything to write home about.
