Summit refs are terrible. See any games last year? Same story, different year.

Summit League women's referees should probably avoid dark alleys in Brookings for the foreseeable future . . .

Yep, I have to agree with the level of officiating in the women's games the last couple years. It's a shame to that the athletes have to put up with that when they are out busting their butts. The only hope is that they suck both ways so it evens out.

WOW is all that comes to mind on the ball situation.

The ladies need to pick it up big time for Saturday. My guess is they will!

That's right. Since when is stomping your foot at your players (and saying nothing) subject to a technical foul. What a joke.
          Holy nutmeg!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I was hoping the league was going to work on getting better officiating or working with them to get better. After this game it seems apparent that is not happening. Both teams should be disapointed with the Refs. I thought the mens refs were just a bit better but then again were not very consistant. Who is the shorter ref at the mens game. I recall him from D-2 and games during our transition. Did he make a move up in officaiting or how does that work. How do refs get scored for the games they do? like how are they judged to know if they are good or bad? It seems refs we had at D-2 were much better then the league refs we have now. Maybe I am just thinking this way because of how bad the women really played. Hopefully the refs are getting their kinks out in the first few games of the year like our players are too.

Yes, kinks like not noticing they're playing with the wrong basketball. Sheesh. The men's ball shouldn't have been there, but I can tell the difference (can palm a women's ball, not so much with a men's ball). You'd think the referee would notice.

I can't believe as a referee myself, that they were so hard-headed not to at least check to see if it was really a men's ball.

I'm not a basketball referee, so maybe there is a rule that the ball you start the game with is the ball you have to end with. I have a hard time believing that is the case, but I suppose you never know.

And I thought the "Rules of Golf" were harsh!!

Any Basketball referee's on the board that can comment??

I'm not a referee, but I play one in the stands at every home game.

I think I can see the logic behind ending the game with the same ball you started with. It's the starting part that I can't figure out.

Neither can I. Who has the job of providing the correct ball at the beginning of the game? Somebody must have an awfully red face today.

I'm not a referee either, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Seriously, how could the ref not notice the men's ball.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Whyt was there a Men's basketball anywhere to be found?? It is one of the strangest things I've heard in a long time. I get they check it tomorrow night!
Those with courtside seats may want to remind the stripes to use the women's ball this game.

Knowing what we now know about the basketball, it's kinda funny to read back through this thread, and especially TV's live blog and the comments made by the blog watchers during the game about how horrendous the game was.

Since it was a doubleheader, the equipment people brought out the men's stuff early. Probably a mistake. But I still think the ultimate blame rests with the officials.

Ref's are scored for each game by an observer setting at the scorers table. I believe that Nancy Neiber is an official observer and was for the Centenary games? It would be interesting to read her remarks after those games.

I am not official observer but have seen enough basketball games to understand if a game is well officiated or not? Kind of an oxymoron - a comment such as "well officiated"!
