  • Re: Women's NIT 2008

I picked up another ticket for my SDSU-student son late this morning. One could guess from the speed of the internet-purchase process that there is at least moderate on-line activity (that is, the system processed for 30 or 40 seconds).

It's likely students will pick up tickets when they show up for the game. Spring Break will hurt student attendance but even so, I think there will be a good contingent of loud students.

I hope the place is bursting at the seams!

With 1500 left as of yesterday, that means about 4500 tickets sold. I'd say a crowd of 5000+ would be all right. I'd just rather see it right at 6000+ so we can blow the minds of the Bluejays. Go Jacks.

According to the WNIT bracket I printed out about an hour ago today, State will host Marguette in the second round. If Creighton wins Marquette will host.

Sure enough, we host Monday if we get the win tomorrow! Let's take care of business first!

As far as ticket sales go, I was very pleased to hear only 1,500 left at 6:00 last night. That is only five hours after they went on sale and people are just getting home from work and hopping online to get them.

My advice is to GET YOUR TICKETS WHILE YOU CAN! It's going to be full to the rafters!

For season ticket holders was there any caveat that you must buy tickets to this game in order to get your tickets for any possible later round games? Just curious.

My recollection is that it was for all the games.

I posted on the other WNIT site (vs. Creighton), the same thing SJ...there is no doubt in my mind the Jacks will host if they win, and if Southern Miss wins, they will get Mississippi State at home. GO JACKS!!!!

Terry is reporting on his blog that it is official we will host Marquette Monday if we win tomorrow night.

Yes. Season ticket holders received a letter about a month ago stating that in order to secure your season tickets for any of the games you needed to purchase the WNIT package (which meant you secured seats for all games played at SDSU). You were also given the option of purchasing additional tickets (ie. if you have 2 season tickets you could purchase up to two more).

[QUOTE=mitchellrabbit;80284]how did you know that? did you get an email saying that? i also just purchased the mini packs and was expecting 4 reserved, which is fine if i get 2 reserved and 2 GA but i want to know that ahead of time so we can get there earlier.[/QUOTE

They left a Phone msg. I guess it was a mistake. After talking to a few people in the office they were able to correct it and are now getting the 4 reserved seats like originally we were told. I dont know how she worked it out but she did even though they are not all four seats next to each other thats ok with me. Can't wait for the game. Hope everyone else was able to get the correct number of tickets also.

Terry's Tuesday Tidbits in regards to WNIT:
                        http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs...Id=personaDest

He mentions that the Michigan vs. Michigan State game attracted 5114 fans and was the only game so far in the WNIT to surpass the SDSU/Creighton attendance at Frost.

I'd bet the WNIT people get nasiated everytime they think about Creighton beating SDSU, considering Frost would've been packed to the rooftops for every game that SDSU hosted throughout the WNIT.

Oh well, onto the NCAA tourney next year!!

From my quick analysis, the next highest attendance on our side of the bracket was appx. 2700 drawn by Colorado for their quarterfinal win vs. TCU. I know attendance wasn't the only factor considered, but I don't think it is out of the question that SDSU would have been hosting all the way through the finals this year. Shucks.

That's still 3,000 less fans than were at the regular season MSU-Michigan game at Breslin. MSU topped 10,000 fans twice for games (Indiana and Penn State). The harsh reality of women's basketball and the WNIT is, almost anywhere else in the country it is viewed as a failure to get into it. You could tell that from schools turning down invitations. If SDSU makes an NCAA Tournament then falls into the WNIT from here out, there won't be those big crowds.

I respectfully disagree. The difference being we get to host a WNIT game. Jackrabbit fans have a strong history of great crowds for post-season games. Will it sell out? Probably not, but I be willing to bet 4,000 + would show up.

I'm not sure, if SDSU makes the NCAA next year and then the following year is in the WNIT, the crowd may be close to the same. I would think that in that scenario SDSU would host in the WNIT, whereas they may be playing anywhere in the NCAA so not as many fans will be able to attend.

However, I think that three - five years down the road, SFSD is dead on. The WNIT will be considered, by the fans, as the result of a bad season or the team choking at the end of the year.

Remember, now that the NCAA owns the NIT, schools can't turn down an NIT invite, whereas a school does not have to accept a WNIT invite.
