Those 8 points sure kept our girls in the game!

Many of the fouls we made were deserved, but give credit where credit is due -- our kids battled hard against a very good team in a hostile environment.

Look forward to seeing your team in Ft. Wayne!
Well, I'll have to go with you IPFW...the fouls were earned because of the aggressive (sometimes overly aggressive) style your team played. We struggled to adjust to the style, so now we will just have to wait to see how we do against it in Ft. Wayne. Your team played hard and we are just happy to have the win.

Our field goal percentage did not help the cause much either. We missed a lot of good shots. Verdegan was 0-8, Warkenthein 4-12, just to mention a couple. 35% is not good when your getting wide open looks. Go to the gym girls and shoot your way out of the slump.

IPFW plays very aggressively on defense... often too aggressively. Lots of slap fouls and reach-ins. The complaint I have is (and this applies to both teams) when players move their feet and play good defense, yet are called for body contact. That's just good defense to me, but it kept getting called on both teams.

I would also note that, home or away, SDSU usually shoots more free throws because we have an aggressive offensive team.
        Holy nutmeg!

I wasn't at, nor was I able to listen to the women's game, so I don't know for sure, but based on what I've seen of officiating this year thusfar, I find that hard to believe. I'm willing to bet at least half of the fouls called on you were tick tacky calls.

If a defensive player has body contact with a player regardless whether they moved their feet it IS a foul. It is against the rules to "bump" a ball handler regardless of whether the defender moved their feet. If a defender truly played good D and moved their feet they wouldn't make contact...thus no foul.

On the other hand some officials will let minor body contact slide, but as both coaches have said the NCAA is putting an emphasis on calling touch fouls and I would consider minor body contact on a drive to the basket a touch foul.

Bottom line is both teams just have to adjust to the officiating.

              Re: IPFW-Home-Women

Throughout the game, I felt comfortable that not only were we handling everything IPFW threw at us but we were in control. When I'd check the scoreboard, I was a little surprised the score was as close as it was at times. Our shooting percentage was very poor for this team and I concluded that the team just isn't playing together perfectly yet. AJ's teams, when playing their best, seem to have their minds wired together, anticipating where each person is going, how fast, where the next pass is going etc. It's like we haven't quite cleared out Christmas-vacation rust or perhaps we're still adjusting to getting everyone back in uniform after starting the season with injuries.

And, you have to give some credit to IPFW. They were playing very aggressively and I think their strategy was the right one to employ against the Jackrabbits. It definitely was a factor in our shooting percentage. The downside for IPFW: The strategy put us on the line a lot and even though our shooting percentage was sub-par for this team, we still scored 28 points from the line.

I claim to know nothing about coaching basketball but from my observer's seat, I think IPFW's strategy was the best that could be used against the Jackrabbits.

We're pretty good and you know in another couple of games we'll start having some flawless minutes and then opponents have to watch out. There should be some games in which opponents simply won't be able to keep up with the Jackrabbits when we get on a run.

As someone who has roots in the Fort, I must say that I am proud of both teams...they are both good. I know some are surprised that IPFW kept it close but they've come a long way also. A few years ago, the talk around Fort Wayne was to move IPFW back down to the NAIA ranks. Since then, they join a conference and their men's volleyball team plays in the national championship game. Both the men and women's basketball teams start 2-0 in conference play. Somewhat similar to all of the accomplishments that SDSU has enjoyed in the past few years. Good job to both schools!
