I listened to that game on the radio. Brown had 21 of the 23 points for Hamlin. I believe Lengkeek had the majority of Sioux Valley's points. Sioux Valley placed 3rd in both the 72 and 73 State "B" tourneys.

I was at the Sioux Valley vs Hamlin region championship game referenced above. SV had beaten Hamlin twice that year already. Hamlin stalled from the beginning of the game. I belive that Hamlin led 4-2 at the end for the first quarter and 6-4 at halftime. SV tied the game at 23 and then got the ball back with a couple of minutes to go in the game. They went into a stall of their own (the story at the time was that they did that on their own, without orders from the coach). SV finally called a timeout with 3 seconds left in the game. Henry Lengkeek took the inbounds pass in the left corner and swished a jumper as the horn sounded.

I don't recall that this was a boring game, on the contrary it was incredibly tense the whole game. Every possession, every defensive stop, every score was huge.

I was there too and I'm not sure if someone said that it was boring to you but it was certainly one of the most exciting games I have ever been to. That being said I believe that a shot clock in HS basketball should be added if it is practical and affordable for high school basketball.

I don't know if anyone said that particular game was boring, it was more of a reference to previous discussions about slow high school games. I lean toward having a shot clock also.

Here is a link to all of the McDonald's All-American nominees listed by state. Cala Westergard was nominated. She is not playing this year, so to get nominated is really good. I think she missed some of her junior year also because of an ACL injury. Obviously I've never seen her play, but she must be pretty good to get nominated when your not playing your senior year.

South Dakota only had one nominee this year, Yackley from Sully Buttes.

Not to belittle her nomination, it is definitely an honor, but I wonder how these nominations come to be. South Dakota only has 1 nomination but North Dakota has 9? Minnesota has 12, but Iowa has 54?

54 is more players than can fit on their All-State team.

Again, I'm not saying she isn't a good recruit, or it isn't an honor for her to be nominated, I'm just not putting much stock into the McDonald's thing myself.

It is well known that most anyone that is a good player at the high school level gets the preseason McDonalds All-American tag. From what I know it isn't all that it is cracked up to be.

For those of you that didn't know, you are able to watch all 3 state tournaments via sdpb.org. I'm watching the Class A Sioux Valley vs. Stanley County game right now. I believe this will be the same next week for the boys as well.
