Here is the Argus Leader article about the new Jacks WBB recruits
Jackrabbits sign West Central guard
Coyotes land prolific scorer Krogman

HARTFORD - Relief. That's what Vanessa Johnson felt Wednesday afternoon upon signing a second National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at South Dakota State. The first documentation was for the NCAA, the second a staging for the media.
Frankly, she would have signed that piece of paper 100 times.
Somewhat under-the-radar because she didn't play on the big-time summer circuit, the West Central guard made a verbal commitment 15 months ago and never wavered. Not when Jackrabbits coach Aaron Johnston appeared to be headed for another school, and not when other area colleges continued to make contact.
She began going to SDSU camps in seventh grade and has been attending games with her aunt since long before that.
"I wanted to be closer to home, and I liked being around the program," said Johnson, whose only other Division I scholarship offer came from Nebraska.
Described by high school coach Joe Caffrey as intense and skilled, the 5-foot-9 Johnson averaged 21.8 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 steals as a junior and has more than 1,000 career points.
"Vanessa is one of the better all-around guards that I've seen in the recruiting class, not just in South Dakota but in the Midwest," Johnston said. "She's going to be a fantastic guard."
SDSU also landed some frontcourt support in centers Jennie Sunnarborg and Cala Westergard.
The 6-2 Sunnarborg is an athletic post in the mold of current Jacks Marie Boever and Jenn Warkenthien. She averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game as a junior, helping Osseo reach the Minnesota Class 4A state tournament.
Westergard, also 6-2 and from Charles City, Iowa, provides a low-post presence. A two-time all-state pick, she averaged 15.5 points and 10.9 rebounds as a junior before suffering a second serious knee injury.
"Because of the injury, she has all kinds of room to continue to grow as a player," Johnson said.

Good game for Johnson last night.

"The West Central Trojan girls basketball team posted a 64-49 victory over Harrisburg on Tuesday night in the opening game of the high school season for both teams.
Vanessa Johnson led the Trojans, who led 31-27 at half, with 30 points. Also for West Central, Jamey Hofer had 12 points."

From today's Argus:
"In a battle of two high-octane offenses, it was the West Central Trojans who had more firepower at the end, as they downed the Parkston Trojans 72-65 for the Region 5A girls title Thursday night. With No. 3 Parkston and No. 4 West Central engaging in a knockdown, drag-out clash, it came down to another “battle of the titans” domi*nating the action. West Central’s Vanessa Johnson, bound for Division I basketball next season at South Dakota State, and Parkston’s Maggie Malloy, stared down the end of their brilliant high school careers – and they both went out in a blaze of glory, although Johnson’s career is now extended for another three games at the ‘A’ tourney in Watertown next weekend. Johnson totaled 33 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals."
We went to watch her play last week and she will make a great addition to the Jackrabbit guard group next year!!
