    Re: AP poll

UCONN women's basketball and South Dakota State University women's basketball mentioned within paragraphs of one another. Who would of thought we would ever see that much less the first year we are eligible for DI play.

UConn stays unanimous atop AP poll; South Dakota St. at No. 25

    Associated Press
    Updated: December 22, 2008, 1:53 PM ET
South Dakota State is ready to step into the national spotlight.

The Jackrabbits earned the first ranking in school history when they came into The Associated Press poll at No. 25 on Monday.

UConn was No. 1 for the 113th time in school history, matching Tennessee as the all-time leader of appearances atop the poll.

South Dakota State (12-1) became the first school from the Summit League (formerly the Mid-Continent Conference) to be ranked since Northern Illinois was 25th in the final poll in 1993.

"It's wonderful for the university to go from a regional institution to a national one," coach Aaron Johnston said. "It's a great opportunity and will open up some doors and other scheduling opportunities.".........................

After a very successful stint in Division II, the Jackrabbits made the move to Division I. This is the first season that South Dakota State will be eligible for the NCAA tournament. The Jackrabbits' lone loss this season came against then-No. 10 Maryland in the Cancun Caribbean Challenge.

TCU was the lone team to fall out. The Horned Frogs lost their only game this week to then-No. 4 Texas A&M.

Unbelieveable!!!!! Not a reflection on the success of this team and this coach, but who would have thunk it a couple of years ago? Congratulations to the South Dakota State University women's basketball team, a top 25 in the NATION NCAA Division I in both media and coaches poll!!!!!! Go JACKS! And a welcome home to Megan Vogel, who certainly helped our program improve by leaps and bounds. What a Christmas present for Jackrabbits everywhere!!!!!

It looks like only two other teams have 12 wins so far, UNC and Auburn.

At quick glance, it appears that SDSU is the only college in the top 25 that isn't a member of a BCS conference.

South Dakota State has joined The Associated Press women's
basketball poll for the first time. The Jackrabbits have a 12-1
record and enter the rankings at No. 25.
Connecticut remained a unanimous No. 1 for the fourth straight
week Monday. This is the 113th time in school history the Huskies
have been the top team in the poll. Connecticut matched Tennessee
as the all-time leader of appearances at No. 1.
North Carolina stayed at No. 2. Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma
    completed the top five.

Arizona State(Texas), TCU(Tex A&M) and Pittsburgh(Florida) have all lost since last polls. Look for us to move up on both AP and ESPN/USA.

i looked at last weeks games of the top 25, nobody screwed up enough to give the jacks a entry pos., probably have to wait some more(ap).Everyone won , although some played some patsy,s, except for pitt. who at #16 probably have enough room to slide a bit, & tcu lost to texas a&m, a higher ranked team , so they won,t be dropped out either, sure hope i,m all wrong though.probably be some shuffling , but i don't think there will be room to move in.

This is a little off topic but here is a website that tracks women's college hoops national championships. ODU has been a power since the beginning of the NCAA women's championships. The interesting thing is if you go back to the old AIAW (1972) SDSU actually made it to a national tourney before they did

So Filbert, maybe you can answer this, how did ODU get a home game against Tennessee? It would be sweet to see SDSU in that position someday.

    Go State!!!
    Go Jacks!!!

    And for tonight:
    Go ODU!!!

Tennessee plays non-conference road games . . . rather unusual for a big-name program, but it's a part of what they do. ODU has been a women's basketball power for a long time.

SDSU stays up long enough, we'll see Tennessee on the court.

    Voter - Rank
    RPI Women's Basketball Top 50 - 15
USA Today Coaches' Poll WBB - 26
    AP Poll Women's BB - 34

From those stats, it appears to be what they were last week. Check the site later to get the stats for this week.
    RPI we are #7
