the offense is a little bit choppy but i think i attribute that mostly to the fact that ohio is pretty aggressive and physical on defense. AND we were not hitting open 3s until just the last couple minutes here

NOT having the trouble scoring inside that we had last game, but Ohio has NO SIZE. i think we look decent for first game with new starting lineup. but i would say we need to shoot the 3 more like we shot it during the season if we are going to have a truly satisfying run in this thing

i have to say i am pretty shocked by UNI beating UMKC as badly as they did. KC must have played badly because i thought they would make that a competitive game

i think miss timmer is going to have an ok career for the jacks)))

the offense is definitely looking better once we started to knock down some 3s. has been about a 12-15 point lead most of quarter 2 and 3. suddenly it is a 27pt game

I think the Timmer as starting PG will no longer be just an experiment going forward. She moves the ball almost as fast as Paige does.

Sounds like it’ll be the Gophers next round. Guessing it’ll be in Brookings. Always fun to beat them.

Update: SDSU vs the Gophers in Brookings Sunday at 2. Should be a good atmosphere.

Irwin was starting PG. Nesheim was not on bench and she did not get in the last 3 minutes. Timmer was a player who matched Ohio physical part of game.

I agree with this. When the team that is down by 25 points takes their starters out, you should, too. I'm just glad nobody got injured.
Every once in a while injuries happen when the starters should not be in there (T. Christian in football is a great example). I know this is basketball not football but SDSU has had several basketball injuries so they should relate.

I have much more faith in Irwin at PG than Timmer. Maybe Timmer can handle it but Irwin looks more under controll.

Ohio was the least fun team to watch play that I can recall. Played like thugs and moaned every call and non call. One player got T'd up for what looks like cocking a fist at Myah for having the gall to fall on her when she took Myah's legs out going for a loose ball. Their All American was the worst of the group.

It was good to see coach move Timmer into the starting line-up. The offense has been off without Meyer as LT and Greer are not the answers there. LT and HG are a combined 1 for 22 from 3 since Paige was injured. Pathetic. With the way that these two have played and HT really stepping up, this should be our starting line-up moving forward until we get Paige back.

This was a weird game as Ohio really played defensively to muck up the game. They were extremely physical except when playing defense in the post. Then they fell down all over the place. Our posts played timid, I'm assuming being afraid of being called for that. But still, we need to be more aggressive down low. The officials will eventually figure out what the other team is doing and make the calls correctly (in theory anyway). But at least we made layups for the most part.

It was interesting that Nesheim was not on the bench for the game. Maybe an illness?

A lot of that has to do with experience. It certainly wouldn't have been fair to Timmer to have her make her first start out of position against one of the best defensive PG's in the country. We really didn't operate as an offense with a PG last night, it was PG by committee. And that is much better than the alternatives.

I like the idea of selland and irwin bringing the ball up and starting the offense and starting Timmer.

I agree with this. Experience helps a lot. Piage is an exception to the rule. She may be a true freshman but she is the best ball handler on the team. She can go 100 miles an hour and still be completely in control.

she had a bit of a learning curve early in season but by the end of the year, she knew when to push it and manage the offense.

I think Meyer and Timmer will be some of our all time favorites when their careers are finally done. I think Timmer the sky is the limit. She has the athletic ability and quickness and clearly is good at scoring and shooting.
