What a miserable place to play the regional tourney and to think, the NSIC held both their men's and women's conference tourneys at Gangelhoff. Wooden and metal outdoor type bleachers as seats, a single concession stand staffed by 3 college students, and an atmosphere far from excitement. Concordia is the perfect example of why we need to get out of DII.
About the game, miserable 1st half, painful to watch. The only thing worse than the Jacks performance was the officiating. Maybe one of the worse officiated games I have ever personally witnessed.
Jacks looked like the real deal in the 2nd half and would have won by 30 if the boys and girl in stripes hadn't kept UNK within striking distance. Great all around game by Megan Vogel, she is the best freshman in the region not to mention the NCC. Scizek played well, Sieler was key, and Davis had a nice 2nd half after stinking the place up in the 1st half. DeBoer played well enough, but Schlagel was a non-factor.
If the Jacks can play like they did in the 2nd half they can definitely win this regional. I would love to see both games tomorrow night in St. Paul but I hate to miss the men's game against NSU and I can promise you that I have no interest in returning based on the facilities at Concordia. I suspect I will return to cheer on the lady Jacks. Nice crowd tonight for SDSU, somewhere around 500-750 fans I would guess.
SDSU Women Win, Advance To Region Semi-finals
ST. PAUL, MN - South Dakota State's defense kept the Jackrabbits in the game in a cold-shooting first half, then the offense took over as SDSU defeated Nebraska-Kearney 67-56 in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia-St. Paul Friday night.
SDSU fell behind 4-0 and had trouble getting started. When Allison Kruger scored on a layup with 8:15 to play in the half, UNK was ahead 16-12. It would be 9-minutes and 48-seconds of playing time before the Lopers would get another field goal. By that time, the Jacks would be ahead 27-19 after leading 23-19 at halftime.
When Heather Sieler hit a three-pointer with 10:25 to play, the Jacks were on top 50-29.
Three pointers were a big part of the story for SDSU. The Jacks missed their first ten and were just 1-for-14 on treys at halftime. But they hit seven of their first 11 in the second half and shot 51.9 per cent (14x27) overall after intermission compared to 27.8 per cent (10x36) in the first half. That put SDSU at 38.1 per cent for the game while UNK, which also had 24 turnovers, at 37 per cent (20x54). SDSU had a 43-38 rebounding advantage.
Brenda Davis hit three three's and led the Jacks with 17 points while Megan Vogel had 14 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Dickmeyer added 11 points and Stacie Cizek 10.
Kalee Modlin led Nebraska-Kearney with 23 points.
SDSU is now 24-6 and will play the winner of the Concordia-St. Paul/Minnesota Duluth game in Saturday's 8 p.m. semi-final game. UNK ended its season 25-6.
The 6 p.m. game Saturday will have North Dakota taking on North Dakota State. NDSU defeated South Dakota 70-63 and UND outlasted Fort Lewis 53-51 in Friday's other first-round games.
We will get a rematch with Concordia (#1 Concordia-St. Paul 73, #8 Minnesota-Duluth 54) I don't think we will be looking past them this time. GO JACKS. Back-to-Back-to-Back regional champs??
Saturday, March 13
6:00 p.m. - North Dakota vs. North Dakota State
8:00 p.m. - South Dakota State vs. Concordia-St. Paul
I hope they can fit all the NCC fans in that "gym".

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 10th-ranked South Dakota State women survived a dismal first half, proving two things in their first round NCAA North Central Region victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Friday.
First, the veteran Jackrabbits still seem to have the depth and composure of last year's national championship squad. And, no matter how poorly they play at times, they still possess an innate ability to erupt for bunches of buckets at any given point. . . .
. . . Looking down from somewhere above, basketball's inventor, Dr. James A. Naismith , had to have shed a few tears because the Jacks and Lopers put on putrid showcase of something besides basketball. Neither team found any sort of rhythm, killing long stretches of the clock with lifeless, scoreless play. . . .
He is the same clown that said we survived a game that we won by 40 points. Isn't it time for Mr. "Big Time" to move on to a new paper ???
Anyway, Chris your beloved Coyotes are done and the Jackrabbits move on, again. Deal with it. ;D

11:28 to go in the first half. SDSU 21 - CSP 8. The Jackrabbits are having a great first half. It sounds a little rough out there. Sounds like a great SDSU crowd. I have heard "Lets go Rabbits" a few times! ;D
I don't think the Argus can have anything bad to say about SDSU tonight. They will probably find a way to include USD or Koupal in the story, though. I look forward to the game with UND and I will be there!! Great job JACKRABBITS!!

The 2 Jacks wins in the regional were easily the worst officitated games I have ever witnessed..I have nevers seen such total incompentence and I' talking about bad calls both ways. I' sure others on this board who were there will concur.

I concur. The first half of tonight's game was the worst I've ever seen. The female official must have been getting paid by the call because she made a ton of them. Second half was a little better, but only after SDSU pulled away for good.
How embarrassing for Concordia though. They get to host a regional tournament and a school four hours away provides more fans. Then to top it all of your team can't score 40 points. I guess NSIC schools just aren't meant to compete with the big girls. Good luck next year though. Should be a little easier with NDSU and SDSU out of the mix.
