    Re: Macie Michaelson

Went over to see Macie play a month ago. She is a little small, but not much more than Heather Sieler, and she is very athletic. She could be called a "stud" in that sense. Good ballhandler, outstanding passer (she made some GREAT assists the night we saw her), and can shoot as well.

It's slightly off the subject, but assume most of you are also watching the outcome of the West Central games. Lindsey Johnson, the junior who committed to SDSU, is lighting up the scoreboard (generally 25-27 points a game) and usually has 10-12 rebounds.

      For Super Bunny-

As far as your question about Macie, I think she would be a very solid point guard for SDSU in time. Right now, there is not much depth on her squad ths year and so she is asked to do a lot. I think she would like to be the point and distribute first and shoot second. She'll need to develop the college quickness, but I can see why AJ recruited her.

She's very hard nosed and is very coachable. She'll bust her butt off for an opportunity to get out on the court. She's the typical State type of player you will like to see in that she works hard and gives 100%.

I believe it is Vanessa Johnson from West Central.

My bad..you're right! Got my Johnsons (no pun intended) mixed up! Have been following Lindsey Johnson of Harrisburg (the 6-1 eighth grader who is Harrisburg's leading scorer and rebounder) also.

Sounds like another solid addition to our program! I look forward to seeing her next year!

            Thanks for the information!

This is from someone who says Koupal is the best SDSU player ever. HaHa.

                  Re: Macie Michaelson

I knew she would have issues with Roosevelt because of her supporting cast can't really hold down the fort if she is being double and triple teamed or just shadowed all night.  They can't do that to her at a college level since she'll have teammates at and above her level doing tons of damage.

I think she'll prove you wrong just fine.

No, I said the best player to put on a SDSU uniform! The differnece is that her numbers do not support the best player ever since she played one year.

MARSHALL — The first round of the Section 2AAA girls basketball tournament went exactly how No. 1 Marshall wanted it to go Tuesday night.

The Tigers built a 40-14 halftime lead and rolled to a 68-32 win over the eighth-seeded Dassel-Cokato Chargers 68-32 Tuesday night in Marshall.

It wasn’t much of a contest for the Tigers (20-5), who will face Mankato West in the Section 2AAA semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota State, Mankato.

Senior Macie Michelson led the Tigers with 25 points and five assists.

                      Macie also had 8 steals.

Saturday at Bresnan Arena, Marshall got its revenge as senior guard Macie Michelson’s 31 points and six assists led the two-time defending Section 2AAA champions to a 70-60 semifinal win over the Scarlets.

“Macie was all over the floor, and I know if we would have contained her it would have been a different game,” West senior forward Emily Stenzel said.

                          MN MISS BASKETBALL FINAL FIVE
Here are the MN Miss Basketball finalists.
                          Kachine Alexander Benilde-St. Margaret’s
                          Alyssa Karel Cretin-Derham Hall
                          Macie Michelson Marshall
                          Angel Robinson St. Paul Central
                          Janessa Wolff Park Rapids Area

The winner will be announced at the 33rd Annual Awards Banquet which will be held on Sunday, April 29th, 5:00 p.m., at the Minneapolis Marriott West.
It is a great accomplishment just being nominated for this award. This includes all 5 classes of basketball for the whole state of Minnesota. I don't believe SDSU has ever had a recruit nominated for this award before. Congratulations to Macie.

FYI, Alexander committed to Iowa, Karel committed to Wisconsin, Robinson committed to Marquette and Wolff committed to Penn. St. Interestingly none of the finalist committed to Minnesota. I think the turn over that U of M has had last year has scared some local Minnesota players away, including Macie Michaelson.

                          Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Here is an article about Macie Michaelson from the Marshall Independant.

                              Michelson ready for D-I basketball

                              By Wayne Cook

It was a whirlwind two weeks at the end of April for Marshall’s Macie Michelson.

The high school basketball season was long over. But not for her.

The All-Star game. The Miss Basketball banquet.

Michelson participated in the All-Star games with the Class AAA team.

She scored 20 points in a 20-point win over Class A, and she scored 17 points in a 10-point loss to Class AAAA.

“I did pretty well,” Michelson said

She scored in a variety of ways: getting steals on defense, on 3-pointers and in transition.

In the two games, Michelson hit 10 threes.

Her shooting, as well as her competitiveness, were a big part of the legacy which she leaves behind at Marshall after a brilliant five-year career.

She was one of the best 3-point shooters in the area ˆ as an eighth-grader.

She played well in the All-Star series, which is the stepping stone to a Division-I career at South Dakota State University next year.

“I was going in and playing with people that I haven’t played against,”

Michelson said. “It was meeting new people and learning how to play with different people that I haven‚t played with. We played well together.”

The games were April 21-22 in Rochester and St. Paul.

Last weekend, Michelson was one of five finalists for Miss Basketball.

She was a finalist along with Kachine Alexander (Benilde-St. Margaret’s), Alissa Karel (Cretin-Derham Hall), Angel Robinson (St. Paul Central) and Janissa Wolf (Park Rapids).

Robinson won the Miss Basketball award, but, for Michelson, it was an honor to be among the five finalists.

“Yes, it was. It was pretty neat,” she said.

“I was up there with four others who were the best (senior) players in the state. Whoever got it was OK with me. Either one of us could have gotten it.”

Michelson played against Alexander, as Marshall lost to Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the 2006 title game.

“She was a forward who could in and out (to score),” Michelson said.

                              Michelson’s senior year also included a nomination as a McDonald’s All-American.

Head coach Bruce Remme nominated her because of her achievements on and off the floor.

Michelson didn’t make the final cut of 24 players, but it was a thrill to be mentioned among the best high school players nationwide.

“I wasn’t really disappointed. It was exciting,” she said.

That honor, along with the prestige of playing in the All-Star games and being a Miss Basketball finalist, capped Michelson’s high school career.

“It was a good way to close out my career,” she said.

It was a career in which Michelson switched schools and had to deal with the surroundings as an eighth-grader.

New school. New teammates. New coaches.

It was a big adjustment for a teenage girl, and the transition didn’t happen overnight.

Michelson came to Marshall High School, which had high expectations in girls basketball.

I see Robinson won the girls award. Who won the guys in Minnesota?

I really thought it was funny that RTR didn't let Macie play when she was younger. I remember hearing the story when she made the transfer over to Marshall. RTR just wishes for a player like that to come through that small of a school. I'm sure they're still kicking themselves over that one. I remember watching her play varsity in HS when she was only a freshmen and she was the real deal then. Hard nosed, hard working, and confident. We're gonna like her.
