  • Macie Michaelson

Next year, you'll be getting a player from Marshall MN by the name of Macie Michaelson. She is a very hard nosed point guard who I think you guys will all like. She is on pace to break the Marshall High School scoring record currently held by U of M great Shannon Bolden. This season she's pretty much had to put the team on her shoulders.

They play down at SF Roosevelt 2/17 @ 730pm. Go check her out and see if you think she'll be a good one for the Jacks. I'd like to think she will be, but am concerned with the young guards that you have and those coming in will be creating a logjam.

If she has the talent, she'll be playing. AJ likes a deep bench, so she'll get minutes if she's as good as I think she's going to be.

Tigers’ Michelson nominated for 2007 McDonald’s All-American basketball team

      By Wayne Cook

MARSHALL — Macie Michelson of Marshall High School has been recognized as one of the finest basketball players in the country through her nomination to the 2007 McDonald’s All-American high school basketball team.

Michelson, a Tyler native, joined the Tigers’ program as an eighth-grader.

She’s closing in on 2,000 career points as a senior point guard at Marshall.

According to a press release, Michelson is one of 1,500 female prep basketball standouts in the nation nominated by the McDonald’s All-American basketball team selection committee, a group of prominent basketball experts.

The first McDonald’s All-American boys team was announced in 1977 and the first game was played in 1978. The first girls McDonald’s girls game was added in 2002, making this the sixth anniversary.

As a nominee, Michelson will be considered for one of the 24 positions on the final 2007 McDonald’s All-American High School basketball team that will compete in the 30th anniversary of the first McDonald’s All-American high school basketball game.

The final selections to the team will be announced in late February.

This year’s McDonald’s All-American high school boys and girls basketball games will be played March 28 at Freedom Hall in Lexington, Kent.

      Go State! Go State!

I wouldn't ever worry about a log jam. Get the best players possible and deal with it later. AJ knows what he's doing and hats off to him for this year and the years to come.

That is what AJ does best...he gets his players to buy into the team concept and not worry so much about playing time.  This has been an obvious asset to all of his teams.  The girls that don't believe in this concept end up transferring elsewhere, Carda being one example.

I think Carda's response to why she transfered to USD was that she wasn't a fan of all the extensive traveling that a DI Independent has to do. I wonder how she feels now that USD has decided to make the move.

That was the public response she gave. While that may have been a factor in her decision, there has been much discussion on this board that was not the only reason she left.

Exactly why other have chosen to play elsewhere. AJ expects each player to improve the team as well as themselves. He sets each player down as a freshman and asks them to make a commitment to improve the team each year they are at SDSU so when they leave as a senior the program is recruiting even more talented players to meet that level of play. Some athletes aren't ready or willing to make that commitment. Does that make sense?

2,000 points in a high school career. That is impressive.

                  Re: Macie Michaelson

A.J. wants to have a deep team and isn't going to give out a scholarship just for the sake of filing the roster. As seen this year (such as Ketty starting and playing 30 minutes against NDSU or Boever being in the play at the end of the Gopher game), anyone who is suited up is expected to be a contributor. Because of our team concept, we were able to win the Gopher game despite Vogel being shut down and we were able to handle NDSU with ease despite Verdegan's absence.

Even though we're going to lose one of the all-time SDSU greats after this season, this team should be tearing apart the Mid-Con next year because of the team culture that AJ has instilled into this program. After all, records get broken; championships stay forever.

                    Re: Macie Michaelson

Michaelson had another big game, here is a recap of last nights game

Marshall used a 48-26 edge in rebounds to dispose of Windom, 91-52, in Southwest Conference girls basketball Thursday in Windom.

Jess Onken and Macie Michelson had 10 rebounds each for Marshall, while Amanda Larsen had seven.

“We did a great job of (rebounding), especially early in the game,” Tiger head coach Bruce Remme said. “We were everywhere on the boards on both ends.”

Michelson had 28 points, four assists and five steals to go with her 10 rebounds. Larsen had 16 points as well.

“(Michelson) continues to find ways to score,” Remme said. “She did a good job on both ends (of the floor).

                      Re: Macie Michaelson

Macie scores 25 out of the team total of 49 points. She was also 6 for 6 on free throws and 4 for 4 in the last minute to seal the victory. She is the point guard of the future for the Jacks and you to like having a point guard that hits their free throws at the end of the game.

Tiger girls basketball team wraps up SWC title with 49-43 win over Pipestone

Anna Full’s two free throws broke a 43-43 tie in the final minute, helping the Marshall girls basketball team to survive Pipestone Area, 49-43, in Southwest Conference action Tuesday in Pipestone.

The win clinched the SWC crown for the Tigers (18-4, 10-0 SWC), who now lead the race by three games with two conference games remaining.

“That was one of the things we set out to do,” Tiger head coach Bruce Remme said. “We still got two conference games to go; this wraps up the conference for us this year.”

In a game where only three Tigers scored, big nights from senior Macie Michelson (25 points, five steals) and Full (20 points, five rebounds) helped the Tigers win a hard-fought contest.

“Those two really hit some shots,” Remme said.

“We were really running some things offensively...tonght those players seemd to have a lot of looks and opportunities and they finished (them).”

Pipestone was down 45-43 in the final minute but turned the ball over on an offensive foul on a moving screen.

Michelson hit two free throws, and on Pipestone’s ensuing possession, the Arrows (17-4, 8-3 SWC) turned the ball over again on a five-second violation.

Michelson hit two more free throws to clinch the win for Marshall.

Macie Michaelson and the Marshall Tigers will be playing in Sioux Falls against Roosevelt on Saturday, Feb. 17th at 7:30 PM. If anyone goes to the game, I would be interested in your observations.

I see in the box score that a Bouman scored 8 points for Pipestone. I wonder if that is Troy's daughter. Troy is the fastpitch coach at PHS.

Thanks. I thought it might be. I think she pitches for her Dad in the spring.
