Curious about something. In the late edition of today's Argus (immediate Sioux Falls area) on what page did the story appear?

My sentiments exactly. The move to DI could not have come at a better time for our women's team. Unfortunately, the opposite is true for the men.

Way to go Jacks. Another proud day for all students, athletes, alumni, and supporters of SDSU.

South Dakota State tames the Tide

Alabama head coach Rick Moody couldn't believe it; neither could Marverly Nettles.

The Crimson Tide (9-4) scored a season high 83 points while Nettles posted a career high 27 points. But it wasn't enough to overcome a hot shooting South Dakota State team, as Alabama fell to the Jackrabbits, 86-83.

"I never would have dreamed we would shoot 47 percent from the field, 82 percent from the free-throw line, score 83 points and lose the game," Moody said.

The Tide had no answer for the one-two punch of Megan Vogel and Shannon Schlagel as they combined for 41 points, including some crucial baskets near the end of the game.

"Those girls [Vogel and Schlagel] had attitude," Alabama guard Navonda Moore said.

Alabama pulled within one at 73-72 on a Nettles lay-up with 3:43 to play, but then SDSU caught fire.

Vogel and Schlagel hit four consecutive three pointers in a minute-and-a-half stretch in the final 3:11 to seal the victory for the Jackrabbits.

"That was the difference in the game," SDSU coach Aaron Johnston said. . . .

Alabama, to its credit, hung tough behind the superb play of Nettles as well as forward Natasha Gamble.

Gamble scored nine of her 11 points in the second half while Nettles added 12.

"Nettles is a phenomenal player," Johnston said. "Definitely the best athlete we've faced this year."

The Tide closed within two points on six different occasions but could not score the tying bucket.

"It was very frustrating," Nettles said. "Every time we made a shot they would come right back and make one, too."

SDSU held the lead for the final 14:47 of the second half but never by more than eight points. . . .

Alabama hosts the Kentucky Wildcats, who lost to SDSU earlier this season, Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tell me you expected to see this in a newspaper 5 years ago. This is part of what the move to DI is about. SDSU exposure across the nation.
