    Women’s Basketball

Wisconsin (4-3) is hoping to rebound from two losses to Big East schools over the weekend with games against South Dakota State (4-2) and at Kansas (5-0) this week ... sophomores Akiya Alexander and Shari’ Welton and freshman Caitlin Gibson all made their first career starts last weekend ... Gibson tallied a personal-best with 12 points against Notre Dame, her first double-digit scoring performance ... the Badgers will meet South Dakota State, a provisional Division I school, for the first time ... UW is 1-0 all-time against Kansas. . . .

Coach Stone Addresses Media Monday and had some good things to say about State's Women. They will not suprise people this year. The entire article can be found at: http://www.uwbadgers.com/sport_news/...5_20_06_55_wbb

Below are a couple of the questions that stood out to me.

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's basketball head coach Lisa Stone addressed the media Monday in UW's weekly news conference. Stone and the Badgers play host to South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Thursday before playing at Kansas Sunday at 1 p.m.

QUESTION #1: South Dakota State has beaten UWM, Nebraska. Is this, after the competition you have played, is this kind of a dangerous game in that it looks like you should win but they’ve beaten some good competition?

LISA STONE: "They beat Nebraska pretty handily too at Nebraska. It’s a game in that we need to play. They’re an up-tempo, 3-point shooting team. They’ll resemble certainly some of the shooting teams in the Big Ten. The three that we just finished playing, again, are great measuring sticks for us. And every game is dangerous. There’s not an easy one on the schedule. And I’m happy that we’re playing at home. I liked what I saw in our team and their work ethic and their effort yesterday, that we’re going to strap them on and go after them on Thursday."

QUESTION #6: What is your connection to the South Dakota State coach? I think you mentioned before that you know . . .

STONE: "Well, actually, before they became a Division I program two years ago, he and his staff came up to visit with us. We see them out recruiting. They recruit the Midwest similar to us. We played them when we were at Drake in an exhibition game. Actually their losses are to Drake and to, I believe, Middle Tennessee State. And that was a two-point game down at Drake, and having known some of those players and the style.

"Aaron also speaks at clinics, and we’ve just become friends over the last few years. And he works hard. His players are very blue-collar. They work very, very hard. They all can shoot the three outside of Gilbert. And it’ll be similar in a lot of ways I think to the Idaho State game and our preparation for that game out in Hawaii."

What a huge win this good be. Hopefully the high school players in Wisconsin will have a chance to follow this game and see what a great program SDSU really has. Seems they are pretty aware already thanks to Aaron.

Jacks will need to shoot well to upset a good Badger team. You know the D and intensity will be there. One computer on WNAX and one on depot radio should work just fine.

Do one of you have a link for the women's broadcast? I can't seem to find one. THanks.

Jacks women really playing well. Wisconsin will make a run early in the second half and Jacks need to answer.

                          Halftime Jacks lead 42-26.
