    Re: Natalie Carda

Mandy Koupal transferred because her major wasn't available at SDSU. No need to rub it in that we won a national championship here at State and she didn't at USD. It makes us sound like sour grapes.

She is a helluva player, and beat us a few times while playing for USD. Did we miss her talents? Yes. Did we move on without her and win a national championship? Yes.

Mandy leaving was a win-win situation for everyone. The Jacks improved and went on to win a national championship, Mandy went on to achieve great individual accomplishments.

Mandy has done will for herself as I am sure Natalie will. Lesson, one player does not make a team and what is best for the team is not always best for each individual part of that team. Hence, teams are always changing.

I think the statement made by SPORTSFAN, implying that Nancy Neiber lied to a recruit, warrants a nice smack back. All student-athletes (all prospective students for that matter!) will visit academic departments during their campus visits. It's part of the recruiting process. Mothers and fathers are included. It is during those visits with faculty members that all aspects pertaining to a major are discussed. Unless SPORTSFAN made the visit with the recruited student athlete and heard all that was told to the recruit by both the coach and faculty member, it would be wise not to make statements on this public venue alleging dishonesty.

I wasn't rubbing anything in. Just pointing out the facts - those being that both sides faired well without the other. That has nothing to do with sour grapes. Sour grapes would be if I said "Who cares about Mandy's POY honor. She's still just another example of USD being satisfied with SDSU's leftovers" or something competely ignorant like that. On a thread about a young lady choosing to leave SDSU for USD, SPORTSFAN comes on here and makes a not-so-backhanded slap at Nancy Nieber and SDSU's women's basketball program. I think that deserves a comment.

Even though I wish Natalie would have stayed and finished off her last 3 years, I wish her the best.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Seems like its time to retell the old joke: When I left SDSU for law school at USD, the grade point average went up at both places.

Here I go trying to "out" some one posting here as SPORTSFAN. I believe this guy is a Northern grad who attended law school at USD. He posts as Jiggernut or something like that on the Argus forums posts very often and regularily. If he is an attorney, he seem to have a lot of time on his hands. These conversation occured a while back before I got booted from the Argus forums.

I do recall having several exchanges off the board with this clown. He said in these messages that Nancy Neiber no only lied but supposely physically assulted the assistant  coach from USD. If SPORTSFAN is somebody else, my apologies, but there is still tons of misinformation still out there about Mandy Koupal's transfer.

Nancy Nieber is a class person and no matter what this clown implies or states negativily, it does not stick in my book. The truth of the matter is SDSU has had women basketball players complete an elementry education currulium in order to get the necessary qualifications for teaching elementry grades by taking the necessary these courses at Dakota State University and transferring them back to SDSU. Mandy Koupal was given this option upfront in the process mention by Alumguy. This option requires driving 40 miles to Madison as many other student athletes have done.

It appears to me that the  USD folks loves to make issues out of the majors that are not offered at SDSU. This crap is going by the wayside as their are many way of accompolishing a goal without transferring to USD. SDSU does not need to add an elementry major either just because Mandy transferred.

Why Mandy chose not to follow through with the DSU option is beyond, me but to imply that Nancy Neiber lied to Koupal is pure non-sense.  Koupal was told this at the beginning that in order to qualify for elementary teaching she would have to commute to Madison 40 miles away. So there were no lies, just a changed mind that lead Koupal to Vermillion. Apparently Mandy is happy teaching in Watertown SD. We should all be happy for her, I am. End of story.

Does anybody have an idea on what we're going to do with the extra scholarship? Would we try and pick up somebody this year(maybe in the JUCO ranks), offer it to Nicole Helsper, or just wait and use it for next years recruiting.

Only on this board can we get three pages on the topic of a role player transferring, and most of that wasn't even on topic.

I say pocket the scholarship unless a true diamond in the rough becomes available.

that's what i was referring to here. let's keep the schollie and have an extra to give out to replace Vogel.

The fledgling USD and NCC boards are both indicating from radio reports that Natalie may be considering Augie instead of USD. Perhaps she realized that Vermillion is really a dump and/or she would be more appreciated at Augie as opposed to USD.

Regardless of her decision, I wish her well in her future endeavours.

As for the extra scholarship slot, save it for the '07 class and reallocate the dollars for next season to other deserving women athletes (I'm assuming that the money still needs to be spent to ensure Title IX compliance).
