  • Natalie Carda

I have learned this morning that late last week Natalie Carda left the women's basketball team.

I trust the source of info but I do not know why or anything beyond that she left.

Good luck to Natalie in whatever she chooses to do.

If true, best of luck to Natalie. She played in all 28 games this year averaging 13 minutes, 5 pts, and 3.5 rebounds. Provided added size in the middle. Will continue to improve and be an impact player wherever she plays next year. Sometimes young players leave programs in pursuit of something they could not find in their current situation.

i heard it was to go to USD. her brother goes there and they have a better Health Professions program. the things you see in facebook. there was a picture saying future coyote under one of her photo albums. a bum deal to lose her, she was good. and probably could have started in the post next year.

If true it won't be the last we lose to USD.  D-I kids transfer to D-II schools all the time for more playing time or for any other number of reasons.  We used to be beneficiaries of this fundamental truth, now the shoe perhaps is on the other foot. It goes along with being D-I.    C'est La Vie.

Best of luck to Natalie in whatever she does.

It is true, both her and D i c k myer are heading to USD Physical Therapy school. USD intramurals better hope they don't put together a bball team.

While in medical school we put together an intramural team consisting primarily of SDSU grads attending post-graduate school at USD (med, law, PT). We lost in the championship game each of 2 years to a team of former Coyote basketball players (DeKruyf, McDonald, etc). Hopefully, Seiler and D i c k myer continue that tradition. ;D

I suppose SDSU will now inherit their in-coming transfers from conferences like the Big Ten, Big Twelve and USD will get theirs from mid-major and low-level D1 programs.

Typically you don't see kids transferring from one D-I school to another because they would have to sit out a year by NCAA rules.  This is why most kids transfer to a D-II school (they don't lose that year of eligibility).  That is not to say it doesn't happen but it is a little unusual.  The one I can think of off the top of my head is Paige Paulsen of Custer who transfered from Northern Ill. to Wisconsin-Milwaukee and sat out this past season.

Back to the orignal topic, I seem to remember us kind of stealing Natalie out from under USD. I believe both her parents are USD grads and have some pretty good conections still to USD. I wish she would stay, she's good. USD's WBB program is terrible.

I think pretty much her whole family were USD grads or connected somehow, wasn't there a story in the Argus about this.  Beresford is pretty pro-USD as well.  I don't understand the move at all from a basketball standpoint or academics.  I understand USD has the professional med degrees, but the preparation our undergrads get for these degrees is just as good if not better than theirs.  All you have to do is look at acceptance rates to understand that.  I assume there is other reasons that are best for Natalie.

Either way, I wish her the best.  :-/

Everytime I think of a womens bb player transfering to usd I think of Mandy Koupal. She missed out on a National Championship and three elite eight appearances. What an excellent choice. While a national championship wont be coming SDSU's way for a while the program will be making a lot of noise in D-1.
Say goodbye to playing the Big 10, 12 and Pac 10 and hello Minnesota-Crookston.

Assuming this is true...student athletes have a variety of reasons for transferinng I wish her the best. I think Natalie could have really been good. the nice thing is with the program the way it is AJ and Lori can go out and fill that absence in a hurry.

There was a Center on UCONN's team that was a DI transfer.
