      Women's basketball schedule finalized
Thirteen home games, including the home opener against NCAA Tournament qualifier Southern California, highlight the 2006-07 South Dakota State University women’s basketball schedule.

The Jackrabbits, 19-9 a year ago, will play home exhibition games Oct. 31 against Bemidji State (Minn.) and Nov. 3 versus Minnesota-Crookston before opening the regular season Nov. 11 at Kent State (Ohio). SDSU will then move on to NCAA qualifier Middle Tennessee State Nov. 13 to play the first of eight -- and possibly nine -- Jackrabbit opponents to reach postseason play last season.

SDSU, coached by Aaron Johnston, kicks off the home season with a weekend series against Southern California on Nov. 17 and Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 19. USC finished the 2005-06 season with a 19-12 record, falling to Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Jackrabbits also will host Women’s NIT runner-up Marquette (Wis.) in a New Year’s Eve matinee, as well as take on Big 12 opponent Colorado on Dec. 13 at Frost Arena.

Other home games in December are matchups Dec. 3 against Long Beach State (Calif.), Dec. 9 versus Southern Illinois and Dec. 20 with San Jose State (Calif.).

The Jackrabbits' lone home game in January is set for Jan. 15 versus Minnesota-Duluth.

Away from home, the Jackrabbits are scheduled to face WNIT qualifier Virginia in the first round of the Junkanoo Jam Nov. 24 in the Bahamas. SDSU could meet up with NCAA qualifier and 2005 national champion Baylor in the second round of the tournament.

Other road matchups include games at NCAA qualifiers Missouri on Dec. 17 and Minnesota on Jan. 14. The Jackrabbits will play at WNIT qualifiers Kansas on Dec. 6 and Western Kentucky on Jan.7.

SDSU will fill out the final six weeks of the season as part of the United Basketball Conference scheduling alliance with fellow Division I Independents. The Jackrabbits will play a double round-robin schedule against IPFW, New Jersey Tech, North Dakota State, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley State. SDSU, IPFW and North Dakota State all will join the Mid-Continent Conference during the 2007-08 school year.

Season tickets, which cover home games for both the Jackrabbit men’s and women’s basketball teams, are now available, although seats will not be allocated until after the Oct. 6 renewal deadline. Single-game tickets go on sale Oct. 23. For more information, contact the Jackrabbit Ticket Office at 1-866-GO JACKS.
