Who's the best player in SDSU history?

You have to consider more than just the number of points scored. You have to look at all the other aspects of the game. When you stack a team with great players they will win a lot of games, but it will undoubtedly cut down on the number of points scored by any one player.

No doubt about it, ALL the women listed below are GREAT basketball players and SDSU was very fortunate to get everyone of them. I have researched the National Championship Team to see how many of those players are on the list. That team (in bold) was stacked with great players as you can see.....

Heather Sieler was selected to the team and Melissa Pater was MOP.

Looks like Grimsrud is going to blow the blocked shots record out of the water.

Brenda Davis would get my vote for best player in history. To me she had the best all around game for the Jacks while I was there and that is what I have to go on.

Am I missing something....are these stats before the season started and Courtney has a lot more now?? Because "blowing the blocked shots record out of the water" doesn't look possible....she's over 100 behind...not being a smart a$$ just wondering if I missed something here

I believe those are current numbers.  She has 34 blocks so far in her Jr. season, 19 her Soph. and 11 her Fr. year.  She might finish the season with 45 blocks meaning she would need 100 plus her Sr. season to break the record.  Still, she is a decent shot blocker.

A lot of great players there. I'll pick Vogel as her numbers were accomplished in less games. She also had several seasons against basically D1 competition. Pater and Davis were great, but no games against D1 teams. Schlagel could play for me anyday as could Seiler, but I feel Vogel is just the most athletic gal that we have ever had at SDSU. Just my opinion.

I think I'm with you on this one. She has amazing athletic skills, a great head for the game and always plays her hardest. Schlagel is probably second for me. Pater was great, too. I didn't follow the teams from the 80's and early 90's close enough to comment on those players. Karla Stevenson gets my sentimental vote.

Karla was good during her years here. The list that was provided here makes me feel old because I personally saw all of them play. I need to go get my nap in before this evening blowout of IPFW.

Vogel is amazing...I've had a lot of chances to see a lot of those girls play. My sentimental favorites are Erin Reiten and Tina Cordes, as they were neighbors, and adopted members of my family. Tina is in the Dominican Republic and last I heard Erin was in Florida.

My top five from recent years:

                    1. Megan Vogel - she may have a shot at the next level (WNBA) Size, strength, speed, stamina, and just loves to compete!
                    2. Melissa Pater - She paved the way for Schlagel and then Vogel
                    3. Shannon Schlagel - Complete player but at D-II level not that her game wouldn't haven't moved up beautifully! Does everyone remember when she played point when Seiller was out of the game as a freshman? She did it all!
                    4. Brenda Davis - Very versatile player inside and out and a positive person!
                    5. Heather Seiller - She was the point gaurd that made all of the above 4 players better! Plus, career steals leader.

There are so many great players that have come before these ladies but they have all raised to the top of the career stats in numerous categories!

It would be fun to have Coach Neiber give you a ranking of the best she has been around. I'm sure she would not rank them that way but she could tell you all about them!

You look at the list and it has been a very special time for this program over the last ten years!!!

                    Go Jacks!

I believe they are having a reunion for former women's player at the game tonight and they will be introduced at halftime. There will be a lot of great players out there!

I am sorry, but I thought she was younger than that. I guess I should have done my homework before speaking.

Exactly how many seasons was Sherri Brende on the team? I remember some sort of drama with her and one of the coaches, but don't remember how long she played.

Increased number of games, 3-point line, shot clock, etc.. all allowed recent players to surpass previous players from a standpoint of statistics. You can't use the fact that the more recent players lead the career stats without admitting that bias. There were some pretty darn good players in the 80's and 90's. Career stats can be very deceiving.

I really think that you would have to separate the players from the A.J. era from the great players from the 1980s and 1990s. After all, this is our 21st consecutive winning season. Even though Vogel has a higher career scoring average than Pater, Davis, and Schalgel, her average is still lower than that of some of the earlier players for our program.

I noticed than Jennifer Johnson's numbers really stood out in compartison to more current players. I never saw her play and she's not on the poll, but how would she compare to the recent greats?
