We were tougher this game but still had periods where we struggled. Its gonna be a hell of a game in Sioux Falls. If I had to bet I think we beat them in round 3.
Confidence. They play with it and we didn't look good. Our better player young and miller didn't do much till the game was about over. The freshman guebert I thought played the best. She played fearless. Boever was ok. Thompson pretty solid game. Ober struggled with foul trouble. No idea who fogg is for usd but she was the difference in the game. Like she couldn't miss.

i don't agree. Their bench out scored us 35-15. Seems like that may have been an issue in a 5 point game. Our bench shot 4 of 14. Gabby actually picked it up in the 2nd half, but the rest of the bench really didn't offer us much. Granted Macy and Kerry did not play well either, but that's why we need others to pick up some slack when they aren't on. USD go that from Fogg and Liveringhouse. We got it from Gabby but really no one else.

My opinion is we have the far and away best starting five in the Summit, but USD loses less than us when they go to the bench. Chloe and Alexis play solid defense, but they need to give us some offense if we want to have a reasonable shot at beating USD in the Summit League tourney.

If you take a look at the numbers, you will see that the players who normally score for both teams did so again. The post players for USD had the game they did because they can hit open 6-10' shots that are set up by Seekamp in her 10 assists. It was real difficult to miss that since the PA guy was like a stuck record shouting "ANOTHER ASSIST BY SEEKAMP!". The subpar scoring was more in Ober and Young while Thompson and Guebert picked up some slack. Chloe and Alexis took 5 shots combined and Ober and Young took 9 shots combined. It would seem likely that the starters needed more offense in their 55 minutes than the bench did in their 33 minutes. The respective benches did similar to their respective seasons. We can pull many more numbers to support that Ober and Young only shot half of the shots they normally shoot per game and that Thompson and Guebert shot 7 more shots than average. It would always be positive to have more bench points every game, but that is not the makeup of this team and it is the makeup of the coyotes.

Seekamp exemplifies the saying "if you want to be the man (or woman), you've got to play like the man". If her outside game isn't working she takes it to the basket and either scores or gets fouled. She takes over games, and we don't seem to have found that player yet. I don't get Midco, and my ESPN3 feed was so bad that you couldn't follow the flow of the game. Looking at the stats it appears Miller got shots but they weren't falling. and it's hard to imagine a more quiet 29 minutes than what Young put up-3 shots, no free throws and 1 rebound. She simply has to produce more if the Jacks are going to advance in the post-season.

Sorry if I implied it was "bad." I merely believe that there's a greater likelihood that Nieman will mention items like opposing teams'/players' stats more frequently than commentators like Elsen or Newitt. That's not to say it never happens with the latter pair. Also, this is likely a prime example of confirmation bias on my part, as I am a fan of Nieman, McCall, Merriam, etc.

I also have to admit that Midco's announcing crew (including Newitt and Elsen) are much more objective than some of the crews they have during events like MVFC feeds on ESPN 3.

Although I quoted your post I didn't intend to insinuate that you thought they were bad. There was a post earlier in the thread that for all intents and purposes blamed Elsen for being a big USD homer. I didn't even remotely get that sense. As a matter of fact he was EXTREMELY complimentary of Miller several times throughout the broadcast.

I agree with you that Nieman is better but I also thought Elsen did a pretty damn good job yesterday. Overall, you're right about the Midco crews compared to the announcers that work other Summit/MVFC games. They are head and shoulders better than most of those announcers.

IMO, there is nothing worse than an over-the-top biased sports announcer whether I'm for that team or not. The Midco guys are above average IMO.

I agree the Midco guys are above average. Elsen did a good job but I thought he had USD leanings and I was surprised to learn he wasn't a USD grad.

In reading about the game this morning and reviewing the stats, have to credit USD's bench and some young players who have developed nicely under Coach Williams.

When you are the homer guy for Coyote Corner, I think it would tend to rub off on one. Its his way of making a living and give us sometime to complain about I guess. I do like Elsen coverage on Coyote Corner.

We have to find a way to break down their defense if our three point shooting is subpar ,or I'm afraid round three will be the same as rounds one and two were. Looked at the stats, this game was really even, except we were out rebounded by 5,we shot a poorer 3 pt shot percentage ( 30.8%, 35.3%....no surprise) and took 9 more long distance heaves than the Yotes and made only two of them(22%)....... over all for the game FG shooting was (50% , 42%).Assists was a big difference, USD was/is either a better passing team or better at getting open, or both, as they led that category 19-11.We played with the lead 11% of the time vs 81% ,that's tiring and shows we were struggling most of the game to match scoring. Positives were FT shooting,2nd chance points and fast break points.

I don't know, to sum it up, we hung with them pretty good, but our offensive struggles continue to hold the team back. We are running out of time to get that part of the game back on track. If the offense starts clicking, we won't have to break down game stats so much, as we'll win most games running away. Need a little better rebounding when the shots don't fall, especially against USD.

A couple more bounces the Jacks way and this game is a win. SDSU played the whole game 7-8 points down. They showed no quit. Everyone knows this team is more than capable of beating USD this year. Both games came down to the last possessions which the senior lead team made a couple big plays to win the games. It's going to be another grind it out game in Sioux Falls. It's hard to beat a good team 3 times in one season. I like our chances with our huge home crowd in Sioux Falls.

BTW, I still can't stand watching Amy Williams on the side line. She needs to calm down a bit. Every possession she had something to say or she was flinging her arms around.

I like what Newitt brings to the game. During the non-conference part of the schedule, he often is on with Tyler doing men's games on the radio and enjoy those two doing games together.

The announcing is always worse when a person is on the losing side of the broadcast. That being said, the tv teams are actually very good. After watching some of the teams that do P5 schools, we should count our blessings.

Objection. Assertion of facts not in evidence.

However, it's a classic trope that it's very, very difficult to beat a team three times in the same season. We shall see.
