  • GDT:Jackrabbits vs. The Leathernecks

The Jackrabbits will probably use the zone very little today. Western Illinois takes about 45% of their shots from behind the arc. They are 5th nationally in 3 point attempts and 3 point made shots. There is no Ashley Luke to fill the lane today. The Leathernecks are being outrebounded by 5.8 per game this year. Ober is not likely to play today and we should expect to see more of Mieras and Flaata. This is an opportunity for these gals to show some game today. The weather should help get a few more people out today to cheer the team to victory. The Jackrabbits should have a chance to improve their ball movement on offense today. Jackrabbits should handle the Leathernecks easily if the defense extends to the shooters. Go Jacks!!
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

If Gabby takes Ober's place in the starting lineup again, it should help improve the perimeter defense. It definitely could use some fixing.

If youre coming to the game drive safely. 2 cars on their top between sf and baltic. Saw one in the ditch by salem.

The roads might be slippery as that south wind seems to be blowing across US 14. I can imagine how it is farther south. Not a whole lot of snow, but enough to make it dangerous.

If Zimmer is attending either game today, he may have trouble getting on time as his periscope showed the Polar Plunge in Brandon at 12:30. Hopefully the roads improve this afternoon. The Vermillion game would give him more time for sure.

I think Mick Garry is the only one covering the USD game. Zimmer should be at Frost.

How good is Guebert? She is going to be a force.

True about Guebert. Three more years to improve on what is probably already an All Conference season.

The Jacks resemble the team that was playing so well early in the season today. Nice to see.

                      Final: SDSU 85, WIU 63.

Guebert lead the way with 21 points on 5-8 from deep. Young added 17 points and Miller had 10.

Jacks were +20 on the glass with 13 offensive rebounds.

Jacks were also 13-30 from deep as a team.

had my doubts on Palmer coming in but she big time surprised me. big shots, good defense, good heads up passing, Mieras also

Flaata showed some flashes of potential today too - 8 points in 16 minutes. This game should do some good for those backups. There will come a point where one or more of them will be needed to step up.

It was nice to see an old fashioned blowout after all of the close games this year. Getting it without Ober was a bonus. It sounds like she will probably be back next week.

I have heard some negative things about Flaata, but I think her medical redshirt and little playing time last year are being overcome some with the minutes she has played this year. She is getting a bit more confidence and she is finding some success as a post player. I would like to see Thompson limited to playing the 4 since she is more effective at that spot. It may also be a trump card later in the season to have a successful backup at post. Also, how happy can we be watching Geubert go 8-11 from the field! By the way, Young was 7-12 and Miller was 4-8. The transition game was working today.

Having both Guebert and Young hitting from deep will really open up things offensively. When you can park them deep in each corner and the defense has to respect them, it makes it harder to help on Miller and on Ober underneath.
