Omaha's Coach is pretty good looking. Been waiting for someone to step up and take Candace Whitaker's place since she left UMKC

Zimmer's periscope had sound!! The sound was better on his end than the coach/players, but it was a giant step.

not a bad looking squad being put together in Omaha. pretty young. 1 sr, 1 r-jr, 2 jrs, 2 r-so, 2 so, 1 r-fr, 6 fr. i thought they played much better towards the end of the 3rd quarter and much of the 4th. shot the ball better. starting in the second quarter and going into 3rd, think they had almost an 8 minute drought. had a bad "brain fart" on the substitution that gave the jacks a 6 point swing. could have made it a closer game. anyway, if they can eliminate a few things, they just may hang around that 3rd or 4th spot in the Summit. like i stated earlier, the only thing that might bite them is their youth.

read her bio. started out at playing Creighton and transferred to Iowa State. was a guard during some of Iowa State's most successful seasons. injuries cut her career short. believe it stated 5th year at Omaha and 3rd as head coach. 2nd youngest head coach at DI.

i see omaha will be at usd on saturday. a game that should be interesting. both squads coming off a loss. would have to give the edge to usd being at home, but........

              Re: GDT:Jackrabbits vs. Mavericks

Just my random thoughts from being at the game:

Macy looks to have suffered an ankle injury. Went out but came back later but had an obvious limp with running. Subsequently blew a wide open layup and put back. A couple of possessions later had a wide open 3 she left about 2 feet short. Coach smartly pulled her after that. Hopefully this is just a minor ankle tweak and she can get back on track.

Chloe looked absolutely atrocious shooting the ball in the first half, but in the second half was more aggressive getting the defender in the air and driving for a mid-range jump shot.

First half was a again a tale of missed layups. There had to be at least 5 times where we threw a shot up from inside of five feet that hit the glass and never touched rim. And there had to be nearly that same amount of air-balls off jump shots.

Guebert was the star of this game and we could have been in trouble without her shooting. It would be kind of sweet if she could win player of the week honors and have all 5 of our starters win one this year. That would have to be a record.

UNO's offense (at least with Davenport in foul trouble) really ran through Shaw. She is very nice off the dribble and has nice touch with her mid range game. She is a baller. The freshman Hogue is a 6 footer who is very athletic. Think she is going to be a very solid player/star in this league. She would make a great stretch 4 kind of player but has to play mainly in the post for them. Their point guard Vidal can really handle the rock but isn't much of a shooter and is a major flop artist. She drives to the basket and falls down after every shot hoping to get a call. Brecht (from Sioux Falls) shot the ball well late in the game.

Overall UNO looks to be starting to build a solid team. They have only one senior on the team who does start, but is pretty unremarkable and easily replaceable. Next year they could be a very tough out for the top teams. Good to see another team in the conference who appears to be moving in the right direction. Now if only NDSU and IPFW could start to do the same thing. Denver at least has a couple of nominees for the McDonald's All American game coming into the fold next year. Why NDSU can't pull it together is beyond me.

              JMHO anyway.

                Re: GDT:Jackrabbits vs. Mavericks

It appears that Gabby has reached 220 steals for her career. That is currently good for 7th place in Jackrabbit history. It is possible for her to reach the top 5 in this category or even top 3 should she reach 80 steals that she accrued in the past 2 seasons she played. She has 31 at this point of the season.

I was thinking the same thing. We won't go far against the top competition ,if we become a one horse show. We need everyone who's on the court to be a scoring threat, so the opposition can't slack off anyone, even for a few seconds. That limits double teaming and also tires the defense later in the game. We have to have balance, scoring both inside and outside, that puts more stress on the defense.

I assume this condition is just temporary. On the flip side,if they expect us to shoot that poorly all the time, we'll burn some poor team pretty badly, if we start heating up and start hitting the mark by them leaving us wide open, that is if they don't respond right away, think TCU .Interesting enough, TCU has become an outstanding three point shooting team, they are ranked third in 3FG %, and #29 in 3FG per game, and are very stingy giving up three's defensively, allowing opponents to shoot 26.4% against them, ranking # 32.

                      Re: GDT:Jackrabbits vs. Mavericks

I got a little kick out of the announcers talking about how young Omaha is, and see it repeated on some posts here. Granted they have a larger number of freshmen on their team than we do and some good younger players, but I think we sometimes forget how young we are: we start no seniors, having a starting lineup currently of one junior, three sophomores and one freshman. We have two seniors who provide good depth and talent this year along with one junior, one sophomore and two freshman on the bench, and two redshirt players. We will have only two seniors on next year's team as well.

Agreed that the Jacks are a young team but they start 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 1 freshmen. And there will be 3 seniors on the roster next year with Viso, Ober, and Young. Another thing to remember is that Wade will still be listed as a sophomore next year. I am interested to see what she brings to the table. The future is definitely bright. The rest of this season and next season will be very exciting times.

Wade looks like she could be a fit at the 4 spot, which is something the Jacks can use as they now have to use Gabby there as a backup.

Actually I didn't mention it because I assumed all followers of this board already knew we were young, but maybe didn't know about Omaha. The reason I brought up Omaha is because I ultimately feel for us to move forward, the other Summit League teams need to move forward. It's good to see a program that looks to have some quality players that are performing at a pretty high level that aren't going to graduate this year. When I look at the mid-major top 25 I would like to see the Summit League representing a little more like the WCC is.

I see it trending all throughout WBB actually. It's been mentioned more this year than I've ever heard it mentioned before,That is, how young this team and that team is.

The last few years, they've been getting three or four at least into the mid-major poll. Maybe we can benefit by scheduling and hopefully beating them. We played and beat Gonzaga on the road and at home back when they had Vandersloot (now in WNBA).Our level of play dropped a little since then( not much, but it doesn't take much either)and theirs went up a little. They're NCAA Tournament record is a little better than ours, mainly because they earned the better seeding. Gonzaga has pretty much dominated the WCC, thus the rise of the others in an effort to finally get past them and the reason they elevated their game.To the Zags credit, they've managed to stay a step ahead.

Hopefully,we've finally got the team this year, and particually next year to turn the corner and get past the first round again. Can't look past the SLT this year either,it'll be a battle also, as it always is.
