  • SDSU - MARIST game thread

    http://www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.d...CLID=210491888

The article above indicates that the starters for the home opener against Marist will be:

    Miller
    Ober
    Young
    Thompson
    Guebert

Will be interesting to see Guebert in a regular season game. Unfortunately, I won't be able to be there.

Guebert has a very quick catch and release for her shots. It seemed to work in the last exhibition game as she was 5-8 from 3 pt. The article also seems to indicate any of the 3 freshmen could see some action. That makes it seem that there will not be any redshirt this year. This team should be very exciting to watch this year.

There are 4 freshman. I suspect Graettinger will redshirt.

To me, this game has feeling of the BYU game last year. I'm expecting SDSU to control the game from the very beginning. Marist comes in with a lot of new faces but they will be ready.

        Game notes from Marist:

The Jacks posts will be tested early this season when they go up against Tori Jarosz. She averaged 17ppg and 9.5 rebounds last year. She is listed as a 6'3 senior. Marist also starts a 6'2 player.

The sixth year senior post should be a good start for the SDSU posts to defend. It will be interesting if Ober can corral her like the ORU post at the Summit last year. The Red Foxes had won the MAAC 8 or 9 times in a row until last year when they came in second. This a quality start for both teams for OOC schedule. I would agree that we should get to the game early and see some Jackrabbit explosiveness. The rotation will have plenty of experience to lead the freshmen. I would expect the Jackrabbits for a double digit win. Go Jacks!!

This is a Big game to start off with! Marist is the SDSU of the east coast. (They probably view SDSU as the Marist west of the Appalachian's.)

Their coach has the 5th best active winning percentage of all D1 coaches. He went from a high school team to Marist and immediately turned their program around into perennial conference champions and regulars in the NCAA's.

Not only do they return the Jarosz in the middle, Sydney Coffey, a 6'0" guard from Hopkins is a first team all-conference guard and Allie Clement, a 5'8" guard who made their all-conference rookie team last year. Coffey is extremely talented and it is a family thing. Her dad was an all-conference forward for the Minnesota Gophers during Clem Haskins coaching days. Her brother Amir is the Gophers to recruit in their next recruiting class. He's a four-star rated guard. This kind of inside-out balance for Marist will make them extremely tough to beat. Their squads are known for taking care of the ball and creating lots of assists.

If we get a win in this game, it makes a great statement for where we are positioned for the upcoming season.

I'm a little concerned we might not come out on fire.Nothing logical, just the nagging thought that we should have played them a lot closer than we did last year. That ,and along with....... against some teams ,we struggle.Think Purdue,we never did do very well against them,0-3 I think. If we get a win against them,I'll feel better for the games coming up.Big plus playing at home.Any win by any amount of points is ok with me,it's huge to get a winning mentality going,IMO.

It opened up fine for me. High quality video too.

This is an excellent opening game. It should be a good test on the home floor.

Guebert is starting. I thought that might only be happening in the exhibition games. Glad to see it. She must be getting it done in practice as well.

Not a single senior starting. This program is set up well for the long haul.

Anyone else concerned we can't hit a three....0-7.I sense Marist is gaining confidence the longer we seem to stuggle. When that happes, our opponents usually light up the scoreboard.Maybe our defense can hang in there til the offense gets going.

Yes I am having issues also. I sent an email to see why I could not log in and they replied that my account had been locked and that they now unlocked it. Unlocked it? Why was it locked I paid for a full year on Sept. 13th. Why they locked it I have no idea. Now I can not see the video. Hope they figure this out soon.

It's actually encouraging we're ahead of a good team without shooting that well.Bodes well of the other things this team can do to win games. We'll need that toughness.

The shots should start to fall. The Jacks seem to be doing everything else well. Solid D, some great offensive rebounds and doing a decent job taking care is the ball. At least we are getting some very good shots. If they were falling at an average rate this would be a 12 point lead (or more).
