Re: Jackrabbits @ USD 1/17/15 the early game

Just a question, but why is SDSU already proclaimed the favorite or team to beat in the SL tourney? if you have not realized by now that the usd women are not a one hit wonder, you may want to re-evaluate. barring a big upset, it will be a State-U title game in the SL tourney. if there arent any major injuries before then, it will be 2 pretty evenly matched teams IMO.

Because we believe in our team more than we do yours.........j/k

To answer your question more seriously, I think it will come down to SDSU vs USD. But like years past, sometimes one of the favorites gets upset before they even make the championship game if they aren't careful. It just about happened to USD against W. Ill last yr, and of course happened to the Jacks. ORU also comes to mind during the Luper/Bigham era, once to Oakland, who was alway's dangerous come Tourney time.

It's whoever wants it more, last year, we were caught a little bit off guard, this year that won't happen, and if it does, can't be used as an excuse. The better team will emerge the victor and the issue of who's better will be decided for the year. This has to be the year for USD ,they will lose too much to graduation to be as much a factor next year, and no doubt Seekamp,Contreras,Loeffler & co will fight hard again.....but so will Waytashek,Clarin and Walters & co.It's Showtime come March, but everone wants a #1 or #2 seed for the Tournament first.

A bunch of reasons SDSU is still the favorite in my opinion. If I were a coyote fan (I shudder at the thought) I'd feel pretty good about the chance the coyotes defend the title. That said, I still think the Jackrabbits are the favorite in the minds of most. I certainly hope the 2 get a chance to face of in the championship game. Still a lot of basketball to play before then. A semi-final match up is a very distinct possibility. Heck, a first round loss by one or both is not totally out of the question this year.

You do know the history of SDSU women's basketball in the Summit right? That should answer your question. Even with a couple of hick-ups in conference play this season SDSU has a lot more potential to be great than any other team in the league. They kill opposing teams in Frost and and are in tight games on the road. The team just has to figure out how to play on the road despite winning at #25 Arkansas earlier this year. I think about 55% of the offense comes from freshman or sophomores. Clarin and Waytashek are the only upper clansman who make solid contributions (Walters does contribute but in a much smaller role). Then you add in another VERY good recruiting class coming in next year and possibly getting Boever back if she doesn't come back this season. If USD wants to win another title in women's basketball it has to be this season.

I think you as well as Jack Daniel make valid points. I think a finals matchup is more of a possibility unless you think the bunnies will be the #4 seed?! I do honestly agree that SDSU is probably still considered the favorite but Yotes are a freight train offensively and will be no easy out in a tournament setting. I guess im not sure why its this year or bust for USD...Amy Williams is a helluva coach and has a very good recruiting class and transfer coming in(5 girls total). Side note, Sandakotastate, im not sure what the history of a team has to do with its current product. If you guys get bored of looking at how coach Johnson can play all the girls he has right now (freakish amount of talent), take a look at usd's additions next year (arens, bradley, duffy-I honestly know little about the other 2 forwards/posts). USD womens hoops isnt going away soon.

And neither is SDSU when you take a look at their incoming class including the #2 recruit in Minnesota who had Big 10 options.

You are correct sir, I agree with you. Just stating my argument that USD is right there with the rabbits this year just as they were last year when firing on all cylinders. Improved version of last year's team that had postseason success. Looking forward to the next matchup and hopefully a 3rd matchup in SF.

History is showing how dominate AJ's teams have been in conference. This years team has been just as dominate except for a couple road games early in the conference season. The Jacks had one of their better OOC records in recent memory. I don't see how it is surprising that SDSU is the favorite. They will continue to be named the favorite and the team to beat every night out in the Summit until someone knocks them off the pedestal consistently like the Jacks have done to everyone in the conference since going D1.

I have looked at USD recuits. SDSU has a better class coming in plain and simple. Madison Guebert got national press on ESPNW last week. She is ranked 31st at her position and is regarded as one of the best shooters in the nation. She turned down Big 10 and Big East schools. SDSU is getting better and better....

Sandakota, umm not sure if its ignorance or the inability to read, but you are putting words in my mouth pal. Thanks for both the history lesson as well as the brush up on current events. I know its blasphemy to come on this board and suggest the might rabbits could suffer a 2nd consecutive championshipless season, but may I politely remind you the Coyotes of USD dismantled AJ's dominant team last year when it mattered most. Since im doing such a good job of trolling you apparently, I may as well do it on purpose this time... the fact that you are going to say a college women's basketball recruiting class is straight up better plain and simple before theyve even played a college game or won a conference tourney is both comical and mind blowing. when have you ever heard bad things about a recruiting class..everyone else, thanks for sharing your more level headed thoughts..*Golfingyote drops the mic*

The history of AJ's tenure is instructive. Go back and listen to Coach Williams in her post-game interviews the first season she coached against AJ. For similar comments about history as it applies to the men, see Coach Smith's post-game comments on tradition following Saturday's game in Frost. Both current coaches at USD thought it was important to talk about the historical strength of SDSU'S teams.

(Coach Smith's interview still available on the Argus Leader site. You'll have to dig a little harder for the Williams comments from prior season. Both coaches provide support for SanDakotaState's comments.)

Here is a good article from ESPN-W about Madison Guebert http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commen...ter-sour-taste But the article does raise one question as it states she is interested in studying elementary education, which unless things have changed is not a major at SDSU.

Others (Warkenthien, Heiser) have gone into elementary teaching. Its doable.

Recruiting classes are ranked every year (see ESPN) before they even step onto the field or court. Not necessarily women's Bball at this level, but it does in fact happen in others.

Next years class is stellar,Guebert,Graettinger,Mieras,Palmer.I think '14 recruit Ellie Thompson was #6 in Minnesota ,Macy #1 in SD, Palmer all-state ,Alexander for '14 3 star in some recruiting web site(?),SD all-state players, a bunch (Walters,Young,Severyn ?)Waytashek was ranked # 80 something (87?) in Hoop Girls top 100 rankings and they keep coming (verbals) Sydney Tracy #6 gprep '16,Lindsey Theuninck #10 gprep '17.....So far. Can the rest of the Summit keep pace? Remains to be seen.

Not quite certain what the "Home Economics - Childhood development" course was relabeled to be more PC, but that's a very successful program over the years at State. Many former students have translated that degree into teaching. So, yes, State does offer such programs.
