    Re: NCAA Tournament: South Carolina

    Here's what we're up against,stats don't lie.
1)Scoring defense ,ranked (4th) in nation ,only allowing 49.5 ppg in tough conference....our biggest challenge and hurdle to overcome,IMO.

2)rebound margin,(9th),got to lower the 9.3 extra rebound number, got to position and box out on release of ball, any later and they'll probably have it.Grab the ball and hang on to it.

3)They take care of the ball pretty good (30th),and don't committ too many fouls(43rd),we'll have to do likewise.

Other than that, i don't see anything that sets them apart from any other team .They might be a little scoring challenged , so they really need the tough defense to help stimulate their offense a little. We get our shooting touch back,we'll be more than a tough match up for them,I think.

The fact that they don't seem to be a huge scoring team naturally should play to our advantage. If their defense really gives us fits for a time, it may just allow time to adjust. Our team has to be in the fight all night long and rebound. If they hang in there, and especially if we can defend them well too, then we can survive an ugly game. Unlike a game like the USD game in Summity Tourney championship, it will require the Jacks to find a stretch or two when they can hit some three pointers to gain some momentum.

The Gamecocks have 2 seniors, 1 junior, 1 sophomore, and 1 freshman who have started nearly every game. Point guard listed at 5-8 with 2 of the other gals at 6-0 and 2 at 5-10. They play 4 other women regular minutes. 2 of those are listed as 6-3 who garner 25 minutes per game together. 49.5 point defense avg seems like a slowed down game with Western Illinois tempo. They also have +9 rebounding advantage over opponents with almost 7 of that margin coming on the offensive board. The avg shooting for them is 38.8% overall and 25.1% behind the arc. Keeping this group off the offensive glass might be a big key to winning. Their 2 best shooters are the 6' starters. We could have tougher draws.

Not to be a wise guy,but all the four seeds are dangerous,i think we got the best one, except for maybe Purdue,we might have taken them this year on a neutral court.

I saw them play Alabama on ESPN3 replay. In that game at least, the gamecocks hit some big three's early, and for the game shot decent.
There's a big danger over-analyzing the fact that for the year they only connected on 25% from deep. Some of their players are capable hitting the three ball if left wide open.
That said ,they seem to prefer playing good , fundamental basketball, low to's and don't foul, intense on defense, crash the boards and score enough themselves to win while holding opponents to 49.5 ppg avg. Also pretty good at getting to the hoop.Simply put, they play tough.

We can beat them, but,we have to know their style of play and what to expect. And of course, we have to play well ourselves.Feel good finally getting neutral court for the game.Go Jacks!

play hard, play smart, play calm. minimize the scoring droughts to 0 and play consistant. if pressed which they probably will be, bring everyone back and make smart passes and runs. keep Lingle, Claron, and Dietel out of foul trouble. go after them and get them in foul trouble, them being SC.

At least the women will have one distinct advantage in their game compared to the men's......the game won't be "hyped" to death.

Maybe one more advantage...we'll probably have more fans in Boulder than SC will!

I could sure go for a win tomorrow! Once again, we are going to have to hit open shots. Given their defense, good looks might be hard to come by. Looking forward to seeing what we can do.

Three hours to go. TV says that SC is favored by 12.5 points. That seems about right, considering their top-15 ranking. We did knock off one highly-ranked team earlier this year though (Nebraska). There won't be room for sloppy on-the-run passes or cold shooting, but it can be done.

my difference maker for the game---turnovers. jacks will need to take care of ball for a shot.

Clearly what the Jacks must do! Take care of the basketball against the full court pressure that we will see from South Carolina. They are quick and athletic. There is no 10 seconds to get the ball up court so take our time and get quality shots.
