I caught a good chunk of the second half and it sounded like a great effort by the Jacks. Both Eide and Boever seemed to be everywhere.

This team has had some really impressive wins and some headscratching losses. I like where they are headed.

Was at this game. There were more Jacks fans there than G-town fans after the very boisterous elementary school class left with five minutes to go.

Bottom Line: I would not have given a plug nickel for the Jacks' chances after the first five minutes. Turnovers, we were unable to move the ball inside at all, and we were getting outquicked to everything. It looked like it was on its way to a repeat of the men's Belmont finish.
Then........
We outcoached, outdefended, and out-three-point-shot them the rest of the way. (Before I go into detail about these points, I want to say this was an ugly win. We HAVE to cut down on turnovers or it will not be a happy finish. Having said that, Georgetown was getting away with a TON of really bad hacks and fouls in their zone press. There were a copule times they literally pushed our players out of bounds or into a travel and no call was made. That was realy helping Georgetown early. Really, some of the worst non-calls I have ever seen).
Now, onto the points:
- Looked to me lik AJ realized early what was going on; he should get a game ball. We were getting killed early inside by their big center and power forwards, and so he switched to what looked like a box and one zone, with the one on Rogers. (Eide, usually). Then on the offensive end, it was clear we were going to a three-strategy, figuring we were not not going to win going inside. I wil be very surprised if we did not take more threes than twos in this game. It looks like our coaches decided that was the way to neutralizethe physical play that had served them so well on both ends. The zone really shut down their inside dominance the rest of the game. And when we started making threes, it opened up Georgetown's defense to good perimeter passing opportunities. (Our passing still needs work).
- Even when we were playing horribly offensively, our defense kept it from getting way out of hand early, and it allowed the offense to catch up. Our women play tough, tough, defense. Georgetown was quicker inside but we were able to match up, especially in the second half, by playing help-out, team defense. This is the classic sign of mental toughness; no matter how rough it looked early, you never got the sense that our women were getting discouraged. This is coaching and also a testament to the mental toughness of all our players.
- Eide saved it for us by not only hitting a ton of threes, but creating shots for herself. She is VERY good away from the ball. I was totally impressd by her game. Others contribued when it looked dark: Cornemann is going to be a really, really good PG, IMHO. She helped settle the offense down when we really needed it.

Probably the ugliest win I have seen in a long time, but not all was our women's fault. For a time there it resembled a football game. Jacks do need to work on their passing game, though, and I bet AJ works against a zone trap in the next practice.

Not sure what they will say on attendance but imy guess is that half of the 300 or so there were Jacks' fans, including a mini-cheering section behind the Jacks' bench.

AJ just said they kept her out as a precautionary measure.The thinking being it was too close from when her injury occured.Just to be safe they kept her from playing,I agree with that decision and I kind of expected it myself.I didn't catch it if there was a concussion mentioned or not,sorry.

I looked at the stats and you are exactly right.We made 9-31 (Eide 7-12)three point attempts for 29%.They made 5 -17 for 29.4%.
The FT'S were about even too ,we had 17-24 for 70.8% and they ended up with 15-21 for 71.4%

The difference in the game was exactly as you pointed out also,OUR DEFENSE mainly,along with our offensive strategy.Once we connected on enough three's, they were forced to open up their defense a little.As a result, we made 10- 16 two point shots(62.5%) when they were really needed toward the end of the game.They were held to 14-40 for a little under 33%

This is extremely important because they had 57 shots at the basket to our 47 for the game,so it was imperative for us to hold them to a low percentage,and also for us to convert at a high percentage.The three point percentage wasn't real high , but it was enough.
Without Eide's seven,it would have been a long night,obviously,as 67% of our shots were of the three point variety.
This was a gamble.But was it?
We were getting nothing inside,so I would say it was a necessary gamble and Kudos to AJ for having enough confidence in his players to go for it.

It was a well played game and kudos to all the players.If all the players wouldn't have done what they did,it wouldn't have ended the way it did,a Jackrabbit victory!

231 - Holy nutmeg! I think our Jackrabbit teams realize how nice it is to play at home in front of 2 to 3,000 fans. That's embarrasing for Georgetown to put on 231 in the stands with a significant number of those being Jacks fans.

High profile win. I suspect when people read or heard the score they were someone surprised? Jacks over Georgetown at their house. Maybe I am not surprised but pleasantly pleased instead.

With throwing up 31 3's I am surprised we shot 24 free thro's. Maybe the fouls and free thro's came late in the game when Georgetown was forced to foul?

I am betting the trip home was much more pleasant the the men's trip from Nashville to Albeqerque (sp)?

This game also gave Megan S and Mariah more minutes with Katie on the mend. It is a great way to end the OOC portion of the year. I am not sure how much weight the schedule will help women on the number side, but the past few games have made the women prepared for the most physical teams down the road. They will always be ready for the full 40 minutes of game with no quit in this team. The Summit women will know these gals are coming for a game.

I think we shot a third of those free throws in the last minute. When we got the ball inside it was mainly on back door plays or in transition... Not off the set offense. We pretty much gave up trying to pound inside after the first five minutes and worked a perimeter-trey strategy that ultimately got the win, however ugly it was. Georgetown had a 6-6 center with bulk inside, and some big rebounders around her, and the refs were letting it turn into virtual football, especially on the press. As I said in previous post, AJ totally outcoached the G-town coach on this one, IMHO.

On attendance: School is out, there were no students there that I could see, and you have to remember that G-town women's basketball is competing with about a thousand other events in the DC area this Christmas season. The good thing is that there were dedicated fans there!

You got that physical part right. This was one of the two or three roughest games I have seen in person.

I went to their web site to see what they wrote about the game.In the background from a picture were hanging two final four banners.What a rich tradition they have in basketball.It's a shame they don't get more fans with that kind of basketball tradition.

TV reports that SDSU has 12 wins over power-conference teams since joining the Summit in 2007. The rest of the conference (COMBINED) has only seven such wins! Appreciate what we have in SDSU women's basketball.
